The past perfect is a verb tense which is used to show that an action took place once or many times before another point in the past. Past Participle What is a past participle? A past participle indicates past or completed action or time. It is often called the 'ed' form as it is formed by adding d or ed, to the base form of regular verbs, however it is also formed in various other ways for irregular verbs. It can be used to form a verb phrase as part of the present perfect tense. For example:- I have learnt English. It can be used to form the passive voice. Her hair was well brushed. Past Perfect The past perfect tense is often used in English when we are relating two events which happened in the past. It helps to show which event happened first. Forming the past perfect tense This tense is formed using two components: the verb HAVE (in the past tense), and the past participle form of a verb.
