We Feel Fine / Movements
Movements We Feel Fine is divided into six discrete movements, each illuminating a different aspect of the chosen population. These movements are represented in the We Feel Fine applet. To navigate between movements in the applet, the viewer should scroll over the heart at the bottom left corner of the applet and click on the desired movement. Madness, the first movement, opens with a wildly swarming mass of around 1,500 particles, emanating from the center of the screen and then careening outwards, bouncing off walls and reacting to the behavior of the mouse. Each particle represents a single feeling, posted by a single individual. Any particle can be clicked at any time, revealing the sentence and/or photograph inside, along with any information about the sentence's author. The Madness movement, with its network of many tiny colorful particles, was designed to echo the human world. Murmurs, the second movement, presents a highly structured environment in which to view human feelings.

DOCUMENTING SOCIAL INJUSTICE FotoEvidence Book Award Winner Javier Arcenillas Spain Sicarios: Latin American Assassins One of the most popular and respected professions in Latin America is that of the sicarios: the hit man or assassin. Prices are variable for killing someone and can range from as little as $20 up to tens of thousands. In Guatemala, Salvador and Mexico many young people, including minors, are seduced by the lure of easy money and the respect and fear that comes with the job. A hooded sicario threatens me for few seconds in zone 14 of Guatemala City. A sicario uses his gun to threaten Luis Esteban while demanding his money back. Hector Torre was shot in the head after an argument. A hand written sign "Danger" on the wall in Santa Rita shanty town in zone 11 of Guatemala City. Thirty-one year old Karina Marlene was gunned down with 6 shots from a taxi in zone 10 of Guatemala City. Carlos Vicio Gómez, a street corn vendor, was killed by two shooters using a machine gun at Colonia de la Paz, in Villanueva.

bpNichol's First Screening Introduction n 1983 and 1984, bpNichol used an Apple IIe computer and the Apple BASIC programming language to create First Screening, a suite of a dozen programmed, kinetic poems. He distributed First Screening through Underwhich, an imprint he started in 1979 with a small group of poets. However, the Apple IIe soon became obsolete and the poems became essentially inaccessible. The HyperCard version of First Screening was a careful re-creation and recoding of the original, and it extended the life of First Screening a few more years. So we are very happy to present to you four different versions of First Screening. The original DSK file of the Underwhich edition with a freely downloadable Apple IIe emulator (available for PCs and (maybe) Macs), along with scanned images of the printed matter distributed with the Underwhich edition. This project has taken us almost three years. The recovery started in 2004 when Lionel Kearns showed Jim Andrews the HyperCard version on an old Mac.

A bus tour was organized by Michelle Teran, who visited Murcia repeatedly via GoogleEarth and started to get to know intimately some of the people living there through the YouTube videos they produced. In this way the audience on the bus witnessed short glimpses of what the city had to offer and started to meet some of the people living there. Through this intervention an intimate encounter was created between video producer and public by entering into people’s homes and the various sites where these videos were made.

The Living: Amphibious Architecture Amphibious Architecture submerges ubiquitous computing into the water—the substance that makes up 90% of the Earth’s inhabitable volume and envelops New York City but remains under-explored and under-engaged. Two networks of floating interactive tubes, installed at sites in the East River and the Bronx River, house a range of sensors below water and an array of lights above water. The sensors monitor water quality, presence of fish, and human interest in the river ecosystem. The lights respond to the sensors and create feedback loops between humans, fish, and their shared environment. An SMS interface allows citizens to text-message the fish, to receive real-time information about the river, and to contribute to a display of collective interest in the environment. Instead of treating the rivers with a “do-not-disturb” approach, the project encourages curiosity and engagement. [Photos and video by The Living and Chris Woebken]

Stanza at futureplaces 2010 | FuturePlaces I was invited to go and talk and exhibit Sensity for Future Places 2010 in Portugal Sensity. This artwork gathers data from the city (environment) this is then made virtual and then this virtual city is represented as a visualisation of the real time space. Sensing Porto senses the environment to make live visualisation and sonification of the city of Porto. The sensors where laid out across the city to take a snapshot of one day in the life of the city. Sensity artworks are made from the data that is collected across the urban and environment infrastructure. The sensor networks can be moved from urban to rural setting, ( ie they are mobile) and different types of visualization can be made depending on the environment. The mother of big brother. Imagine walking out the door, and knowing every single action, movement, sound, micro movement, pulse, and thread of information is being tracked, monitored, stored, analyzed, interpreted, and logged.
