Fundraising Via Mobile Apps Can Still Be A Challenge There’s an app for almost everything, even in fundraising. With mobile devices reaching near-ubiquity, donors want to use their smartphones or tablets to give to their favorite charities. Some nonprofits are optimizing their websites to make it easier for mobile users to donate, others are experimenting with text-to-give programs. But with so many people downloading mobile applications, or apps, to their mobile devices, it makes sense to consider the types of apps available to help with fundraising. Unfortunately, the answer might not be what organizations want to hear. Apps are downloaded directly by consumers with smartphones or tablets, usually from a central online repository maintained by the vendor of the mobile operating system. Many apps are free to download, which is one of their major selling points. But there’s a paucity of mobile apps for fundraising. The net effect of this is that users who want to give via their Apple device face a number of obstacles. Other Options

Funding free expression_by_anne_ nelson_ifex_cima Best Amendment: a game that plays out consequences of fighting bad guys with guns with good guys with guns The Best Amendment is a pay-what-you-like Mac/Win/Flash game that plays out NRA president Wayne LaPierre's infamous statement that "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." The first level is straightforward. You’re a little white cone-shaped fella, and you need to go get the star before the timer runs out. With each successive level, a new black-colored cone guy is added, and you have to shoot them to get more stars. Sometimes they shoot back at you, or even at each other. The game was created by Paolo Pedercini, who previously created "Unmanned" (a game about drone pilots) "Operation Pedopriest" (a satirical game about the Catholic Church); Free Culture; McDonald's Video Game; and most notoriously, Phone Story, a game about mobile phone manufacture that was banned from the Ios App Store (you can still get it for Android). Here are some examples of things OpenITP approved funding for in our previous round: Your turn!

Liberté d'expression Les vidéos pop du web Map | Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights | Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights Network Neutrality Blog Posted on April 20, 2010, 2:09pm | Steven Titch After reading over some of the postings from the few weeks and exchanging emails with Richard Bennett at Technology Liberation Front, I am coming to see how disastrous a decision it was for the FCC to pursue sanctions against Comcast over its throttling of BitTorrent files. True, the case, and the court decision has allowed activists to foam at the mouth about a “crisis” in Internet service. Yet despite the breathless warnings, none of this resonates with the public. The results of a recent Rasmussen Reports poll, posted here by Adam Thierer , that found that 53% of Americans oppose FCC regulation of the Internet. Even though the issues in the BitTorrent case are a bit technical, the public groks on some level that claims by proponents of regulation that the recent U.S. Now let’s look at what BitTorrent is and what Comcast actually did. BitTorrent is a file transfer protocol. IP, HTTP, SIP, SOAP and BitTorrent are all open protocols.

Network Neutrality What is Net Neutrality? Network Neutrality (or "net" neutrality) is the concept of online non-discrimination. It is the principle that consumers/citizens should be free to get access to - or to provide - the Internet content and services they wish, and that consumer access should not be regulated based on the nature or source of that content or service. back to top Why is Net Neutrality an issue? Net neutrality was a founding principle of the Internet. Why does Net Neutrality matter to libraries? The American Library Association is a strong advocate for intellectual freedom, which is the “right of all peoples to seek and receive information from all points of view without restriction.” The ability of the Internet to spread and share ideas is only getting better. One application that libraries are especially invested in is distance learning. The Issue of Regulation vs. Contrast the quasi-monopoly on broadband pipes with the intensely competitive market of web content and services.
