Turkish Delight (1973) Repulsion (1965)

Jandy's Meanderings Well, I figured out what’s going on with the Blogger commenting issue . It isn’t a bug; it’s intentional. The Blogger team has added OpenID support for commenting in their Beta (or Draft) version of Blogger, to replace the manual name/URL option–hoping to encourage the use of OpenID and maybe reduce comment spam, I think. See their post about it here . In the meantime, for some crazy reason they thought it would be a good idea to take off the name/URL commenting not only in the Draft version, but also the current version, which does NOT yet have OpenID support. So, basically, they completely screwed everyone who isn’t using the Draft version. I don’t think it’s a good idea, anyway, to get rid of the name/URL field…it took me more than half an hour to get an OpenID account and get it set up with my blog URL so I could comment and air my complaints about the whole thing.

Top 50 Dystopian Movies of All Time Massive dehumanization, totalitarian government, rampant disease, post-apocalyptic terrains, cyber-genetic technologies, societal chaos and widespread urban violence are some of the common themes in dystopian films which bravely examine the ominous shadow cast by future. A dystopia is a fictional society that is the antithesis or complete opposite of a utopia, an ideal world with a perfect social, political and technological infrastructure. A world without chaos, strife or hunger. In contrast, the dystopian world is undesirable with poverty and unequal domination by specific individuals over others. Ranking the List We thought it would be interesting if we could coagulate the most commonly cited dystopian movies and rank them not to preference, but to an average score made up of both Rotten Tomatoes (RT) and IMDB ratings. We’ve taken both ratings, added them together and found an average score for each film. 50. In the nation of Libria, there is always peace among men. 49. 48. 47. 46.

Interesting facts and Funny pictures.. - Page 7 Once upon a time, George Lucas used some of his money to form a new division at Lucasarts known as "Graphics Group". The company originally did this and that for a while, most notably the Genesis planet simulation from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the stained-glass knight from Young Sherlock Holmes. Working there was one John Lasseter, who created a CGI short entitled The Adventures of Andre and Wally B in his downtime, with the assistance of computer genius Ed Catmull. Seeking money for his divorce costs (and also because of the failure known as Howard the Duck), Lucas eventually sold it to Steve Jobs for ten million dollars. At the same time, John Lasseter continued to use CGI to make short films and showed them around at conventions, specifically the computer-graphics convention SIGGRAPH.

Uncensored: General interest observations and true web-log. A bill proposed this week by Assemblywoman Pamela R. Lampitt (D., Camden) would impose a fine of up to $50 and possibly 15 days in jail for pedestrians caught using their cellphones without hands-free devices while walking on public sidewalks and along roadways. If the bill becomes law, “petextrians” – people who text while walking – would face the same penalties as jaywalkers in New Jersey.“I see it every single day,” Lampitt said Friday. Another study, from Safe Kids Worldwide, a Washington-based nonprofit, found that 40 percent of teens said they had been hit or nearly hit by a car, bike, or motorcycle while walking. The survey of more than 1,000 children between ages 13 and 18 found that 47 percent of those who said they were hit or almost hit were listening to music, 20 percent were talking on the phone, and 18 percent were texting, researchers said. In a world populated with idiots, the banning of risky behavior has its downside.

ALL-TIME 100 Movies - TIME You like us, you really like us. You also hate us. Anyway, you click on us, which is the surest way a website has of measuring interest in its content. The All-TIME 100 Movies feature—compiled by Richard Schickel and me, and handsomely packaged by Josh Macht, Mark Coatney and all the smart folks at TIME.com—attracted a record-busting 7.8 million page views in its first week, including 3.5 million on May 23rd, its opening daym, in time for Father’s Day. Thousands of readers have written in to cheer or challenge our selections, and thousands more have voted for their own favorites. The response simply underscores Richard’s and my long-held belief that everybody has two jobs: his own and movie critic. The idea was to assemble 100 estimable films since TIME began, with the March 3, 1923 issue. Not so simple, in fact, for we faced a couple of complications. Why do the list? LISTOMANIA I feel one of my grand gender generalizations coming on, and I can’t resist it, so here goes. Corliss’s Cuts

LUPANAR: Crítica de cine poco convencional louisgray.com Without Dhoni (the Captain), would this Indian LOI team have been as successful? - PakPassion - Pakistan Cricket Forum Some really interesting comments. First of all with the thread, I don't entirely agree that all the success can be attributed to Dhoni, yes he has played a good part but equally important is how the team has evolved, not long ago Dhoni was near to getting sacked after 0-8 losses overseas and then a home series defeat to England, but then the selectors took some brave decisions, Dhoni backed some of his players whom he believed in and the youngsters responded, it's a combination of good management, good captaincy and team work from the players side. a good captain alone won't win you games and a good team sometimes can struggle if they have a very weak captain. some good comments above about Dhoni's temperament and how he leads from the front, those things are very important for a leader.

Why I have faved 18,456 Tweets (why Twitter is dominant in tech In just the past year I’ve clicked to fave 18,456 Tweets. It’s a stunning number, if you think about it, and I don’t know of any other tech blogger who has done more faves. What am I learning? Well, for one, there’s important stuff that gets written that doesn’t get on Techmeme. Even for things that get on Techmeme, I’ve seen that stories break first on Twitter. But I’ve come to realize that curating great tech tweets is one thing I love to do and one way I can add a lot of value to the tech industry. Tonight my boss, Rob La Gesse, agreed and — in a redesign of my blog that he worked on — we added a widget that displays my latest favorite Tweets on my blog. So, why do I fave tweets? 1. Anyway, I hope you all get some value out of my Twitter favorites. Oh, and I have a Twitter list of my favorite 500 Twitterers. But that gets me to a bigger point: WHY IS TWITTER DOMINANT IN THE TECH INDUSTRY? See, I watch Google Buzz more than almost any other tech blogger. Why is that?
