All Derby Drills: Warm-up Description:I like to use this waterfall drill as a warm up, then expand on it later in the practice session and use drills which emphasize the motions of the Squeezebox. I'll describe the motions of this drill, but here's a small Flash video to demonstrate how it works. Divide your skaters into groups of three (3). We found that members of eYeka’s community of creatives was motivated by a variety of things, one of them being Fulfillment. We tend to underestimate peoples’ willingness to be creative, but to sustain it, it is crucial to provide people with feedback about their creative work. This is not always easy, especially when brands ask for confidentiality… but it’s possible. Here are some examples of how our clients provide feedback to our community.

Pynk Fitness - wellness for the alternative athlete Our rec league, Internal Affairs, accepts new skaters at the first 2 practices of every month. These intake practices usually focus on basic on- skates skills – stops, falls, crossovers and all of the other little details that make an athlete proficient on her skates. The problem with this structure is that it takes some skaters several months to actually play the sport – and as anyone who’s played roller derby can attest, you spend your first year of contact figuring out what you’re doing besides just turning left and bouncing off of people. Fantastic Four motivations for co-creation Co-creation is a way to integrate real consumers in the development of companies’ new offers. Hence, these companies benefit from crucial input coming up from the market, as long as they’re able to organize and leverage communities of co-creators. Last year, Doug Williams from Forrester Research issued a report that revealed a stunning 61% of US adults being willing co-creators ! Williams highlights the opportunity that this represents for consumer product strategy (CPS) professionals, and promises to publish case studies of social co-creation in a near future. But what about the co-creators ?

Pivots & Pounds Okay, okay, okay, okay….Im going to be honest…I drank A LOT on Friday night and Saturday was the hardest work out of my life. Even though it was a rest day for most of the exercises I almost couldn’t hang. Back story: I am a big winey delicate flower when I’m hung over. Smells bother me, I have hot flashes, people piss me off more - I’ll literally just stare at them with the most blank “omg your so annoying” look ever - and I laugh a lot. It’s like I’m super bi polar. Anyways, it’s no fun.

Consumers Are Willing Co-Creators: More On The Intersection Of Social Media And Consumer Product Strategy In a prior post, I told you that 83% of companies use social media, but fewer than half of those have product teams that are currently using social media to influence product design, creation, or strategy. In that report, I also divulge that 72% of consumer product strategy (CPS) professionals claim that social media will enhance their existing capabilities of using customer input to shape product strategy. I've also posted about how social co-creation is an important opportunity for consumer product strategy (CPS) professionals -- and it's something that some, but not all, of those companies who are active with social media use. For those CPS pros who are not actively engaging in social co-creation, a common question is, "Do consumers want to co-create?

Kamikaze Kitten » Progress when you aren’t looking. I’ve been learning a valuable lesson over the last few months about when progress is ACTUALLY made. I was working out A LOT. 6-7 days a week including on skates training. Week after week at the Dynamic Sports Academy I was getting small improvements in my weight lifting, but not really seeing any in my Vision and Cognitive Tests or my fast footwork. After a few months of this I passed my workout schedule on to the coaches there who suggested I may be doing too much and not allowing my body to make the improvements, and instead was just tiring out my central nervous system. Coupled with not enough sleep and not enough food, some of those workouts were just a plain old waste of time. So I made some changes and after a few weeks of completely going the other way and hardly working out at all (you do what you think about right?

The situation is compounded when you add several pounds of skates to your feet! The results are usually not pretty!

Making the R2D2 Helmet First and foremost, let me just say thank you to everyone for the wonderfully enthusiastic response to my creation. Being tremendously nerdy has never been so rewarding... well, that might be a lie; the rewards of nerddom are self evident and plentiful. I debated on whether to post the process of making it, but it was so fun I decided I really wanted to share it (I have absolutely zero self restraint). Also, it's not rocket science. First, I sand-papered the crap out of an old helmet that Philadelphia Scooters kindly provided. If derby were easy... - Harrisburg Roller Derby If roller derby was easy, everyone would do it. It isn’t. It isn’t even remotely easy. Maybe there was a time where it was easiER, but in modern roller derby, even the smallest leagues have high demands on their skaters.
