Map Cuts - Paper Art I love artworks, which are influenced by maps or the city itself. For this reason, I already wrote some articles about this part of contemporary art – remind the Manhattan Skyline Drawing by Stephen Wiltshire or the fantastic typographic lino-cut by Mark Andrew Webber. Today I will present another great example: Whether New York, Paris or London, American artist Karen O’Leary’s map cuts are amazing! She hand-cuts parts of original maps into paper and reveals in this way the paths, nodes, circles, boulevards, parks and streets of some of the greatest cities in the world. Karen begun with Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx, afterwards she cut Paris and recently Great Britain’s capital, London. For me, these paper artworks look like spiderwebs and seem to be violative, or better instable. Via thejailbreak.com.

B L O O D A N D C H A M P A G N E .

Strange and Gorgeous Houses Built on Rooftops Yeah, the Hong Kong ones look like they're on the verge of ending up on the ground floor. sometimes they do, when big typhoons hit HK. most of them are not much different than squatter houses, built with a mix of corrugated aluminum panels and pieces of plywood and acrylic. sometimes walls are built with single layer bricks, but the roofs aren't always very well attached, and metal roofing turns the inside into an oven during the summer. like this ground level "wood house village" in Pok Fu Lam. which is a little more modern, and the residents here even put in air conditioners and barbeques on the roof patios, along with lots of potted plants. (photograph borrowed from random google results) SExpand Are these make-shift villages similar to the favelas in Brazil?
