Mais les contribuables ont le droit de savoir quel usage est fait de leur argent, les autorités publiques doivent donc leur rendre des comptes. L’État du Texas a mis en place sur Internet une base de données des dépenses publiques et a poursuivi son effort de transparence des comptes par d’autres initiatives novatrices. En cela, il donne aux citoyens accès à une information qui leur permet d’analyser les dépenses et d’entrer dans le débat sur le futur de l’État.
