The OSTRICH Story A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him. The waitress asks them for their orders. The man says, "A hamburger, fries and a coke," and turns to the ostrich, "What's yours?" "I'll have the same," says the ostrich. The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says, "A hamburger, fries and a coke." The ostrich says, "I'll have the same." Again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change. This becomes routine until the two enter again. "The usual asks the waitress?" "No, this is Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato and a salad," says the man. "Same," says the ostrich. Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, "That will be $32.62." Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table. The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. "Excuse me, sir. Beauty Secrets of the Ancient Egyptians By Judith Illes Gaze at the myriad portraits of ancient Egyptians and what looks back? Consistent meticulously and beautifully outlined and ornamented eyes. Although we know the Egyptians possessed the equivalent of our rouge, lip-gloss and nail polish, these were used only upon occasion, apparently as a matter of personal preference, style and fashion. As we have seen to be typical of the ancient Egyptians, they took a truly holistic approach to the concept of eye makeup. The Egyptians used two types of eye makeup: Udju was made from green malachite (green ore of copper) from Sinai. Mesdemet, a dark gray ore of lead, was derived from either stibnite (antimony sulphide) or, more typically, galena (lead sulphide.) The packaging and preparation of eye makeup was quite different from what we are used to today. In ancient Egypt, preparations were a little more extensive. Even the humblest graves consistently contain at least a simple palette. Eye make up provided psychic protection as well.

With enough time, patience, and newspapers you can create newspaper yarn. From the design studios of Greetje van Tiem and her “Indruk” project she can purportedly spins 20yds of “yarn” from a sheet of old newspaper. Similar to our post on Plarn, newspaper yarn can be woven into varying degrees of complexity to construct anything from curtains, to rugs, netting throws, or even upholstery. This great craft can create usable additions around the home and is a upcycle for your Sunday Post. Of course the question is "how to spin newspaper yarn?" You will need: ScissorsNewspaperSpindle 1) Take a full sheet from your paper and fold in to about fourths. 2) Cut half inch strips along the width of this folded paper. 3) Create a “lead” with your first strip by twisting it up tightly with your fingers. 4) Wrap the lead around the base of your spindle to begin the process.
