eu.art.com - Design Inspiration and Wall Art The boutique hotel chain's second Los Angeles location features a giant 40-foot wall facing 6th Avenue, where up-and-coming artists are regularly invited to create site-specific works. It's an ever-changing outdoor exhibition space: each artist's mural has a lifespan of about three months before it's painted over and replaced with a new piece. Mario's mural at the Standard incorporated trademark elements of his style like muted colours and clean architectural forms. Trees and clouds referenced his love of nature to "create an image that transports feeling." After producing parts of the mural in his studio in Berkeley and on-site in LA, Mario hand-painted the background. He then attached huge printed cutouts to the wall with super-strength wallpaper paste for a textured and layered effect. Visitors were able to further immerse themselves in the finished mural using the Mario Wagner channel on Snaps! #livingcollage #thestandardla #artdotcom #snapsapp #mariowagner

Wreaths - Recycle, eh I've had a number of visitors complaining (in a nice way) that my Christmas posts have neglected nature. So, for those of you who love to craft and reuse natural materials, we'll start with pinecones (or pine cones). Like Chris over at Just a Girl (check out her pinecone wreath!), I collect my own pinecones, venturing out into the park behind my house and along the Rideau Canal (although, technically you're not supposed to pick those particular pinecones??) hoping that I beat the squirrels to them. Friends who live in the country also bring me bagfuls. An aside: I tend to choose projects where the finished product can be recycled or composted so I try to find ones that don't use glitter or anything else that is not suitable. Image Just A Girl Preparing Your Pinecones If you've picked your cones outside off the ground, you may want to take some precautions to ensure that you don't bring in any undesirables. Pinecone Wreaths The wreath above is the kind I usually make. Image Casa Haus

Dispatch From LA December 2009 I'm baaa-aaack! My once-state-of-the-art laptop is still on shaky legs, but at least at this point it's functioning. A big thanks to B, the lovely boyf, for his technical advising, and to Google Chrome for not making the internets crash 12 times in a row like Firefox does to me. Whew. So let's get back to it, shall we? I've posted this print before, but I love it and it works for this post (bear with me): Poster by Erin Jang, as seen on happy lady eats Last night we celebrated Hanukkah with my family. Also let me preface this by saying the B wasn't really into it. Last (I promise the punchline is coming soon - stay with me!) My mom knows how I feel about cake and pie, so for dessert she bought these: ICE CREAM CAKE CUPCAKES. These ice cream cupcakes from Cold Stone Creamery were ridiculous. Mmmmm. And just for the record, if I ever get married, I'm skipping the wedding cake and doing individual ice cream cakes (or cupcakes like this, now that I know they exist!)

Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic Couture I am so very grateful that my god given talent and my chosen path is that of an artist. However a vital component to creating and evolving is being mindful that we must restore our souls and refuel the creativity bucket…I try to prioritize at the start of the year by taking a few days to focus on quietening my mind, while giving my whole body some still time. This helps me create a new stage for the year, for new story telling. With with my creative button refreshed I went on a quick buying trip to San Diego. There my fav find was this floral sink, for which I now have to find a bathroom!!!! Here and there i had my babysitting duties of SADIE (lilys dog)………. And then my travels started. I have found that another way I can get my creativity to flow is to follow the seasons. My next stop was home to LONDON for some dreary English whether. This past visit to London Laurence Amelie popped over from Paris as a special guest at my Prairie Book Signing. This was my first sighting at the fair…..

holiday crafting with book pages This holiday season I am noticing a trend- book pages! They are everywhere from Anthropologie to West Elm, it is obvious that everyone has discovered the versatility and beauty of text on a book page. I have been using recycled book pages for quite a while and can attest to the fact that they are a simple, affordable and a beautiful supply to use in art and craft projects. I decided to put together some SUPER easy ideas to get started using book pages in your holiday crafting. I like to encourage recycling- so look for old books that you don't want to keep. Use pages with just text- no pictures. Create a chain garland from strips of book pages. Or cut out simple shapes and feed them through the sewing machine with a straight stitch to create a garland. Create simple flowers by cutting out shapes. Use hot glue and scrunch then together for dimension. Layer until you have a full flower. Glue down a button to the middle. Again, cut out a simple shape (use decorative scissors for the edges).
