Learning AutoHotKey – Simplifying The Idea of Hotkeys and HotStrings | Keyboard & Mouse Automation For a first-time user, AutoHotkey can be an intimidating experience. While its benefits in saving time and preventing RSI are undeniable, the general first reaction from users is “Hey.. I am not a programmer.. I can’t do this… It’s too tough… What a waste of time.” But wait.. It’s not tough. Before I start explaining the “How To..” behind AutoHotkey command scripts, you need to know “Why Generating Scripts In AutoHotkey” is important. Let’s start with explaining two important terms that are used with AutoHotKey software: HotKeys and HotStrings. Hotkeys and Hotstrings are both used to trigger commands. For eg: Pressing F1 will activate the Help Menu. On the other hand, a HotString is a key sequence that involves more than one character (string) to execute any commands. For eg: You can define the string “btw” to expand to “by the way” as you type. Defining HotStrings and HotKeys can not only help you automate tasks but also lets you choose the key combinations. How to Play YouTube Videos and Playlists in VLC Media Player You can watch any YouTube video or entire video playlists outside the browser using the VLC Media Player. And the videos will play without the ads. Do you know that VLC Media Player, the world’s favorite video player that supports nearly every video format, can also play YouTube videos on your desktop without requiring the web browser or the Adobe Flash player. To get started, open the VLC player, press Ctrl+N to open the Network URL dialog and paste any YouTube video URL in the input box. The streaming videos will play inside VLC Media Player just like any other local video file while offering some additional benefits not available inside the standard YouTube player. You can choose Video -> Always on Top inside VLC and the YouTube video window will stick to the foreground while you work on other tasks. Play YouTube Playlists inside VLC VLC, by default, only supports single YouTube URLs but it also possible to import an entire YouTube Playlist into VLC and watch all the videos in sequence.

Build Your Own VPN to Pimp Out Your Gaming, Streaming, Remote Access, and Oh Yeah, Security How to Make the Most Out of Limited Screen Space (and Even Work Better) I have to agree fully, especially for those who are scared of trying - give it a shot, it actually helps. Actively managing your workspace as opposed to just throwing more real estate at it is a terrific way to really find good ways to get things done. Like you, Adam, I was a multi-monitor addict. So I switched at work to a single 24, and found my productivity jump. Another tip I found - I do most of my email on my iPad. Great post, Adam. Now with a 1920x1080+ panel it's really hard NOT to actively manage your display.
