Handmade Hourglass Ornaments Today, I’m over at CraftSnob sharing a quick handmade ornament tutorial made with supplies you likely already have on hand. I guess you could consider me a major scrooge since I don’t really decorate for the holidays. Or any holiday. MAGAZINE ENVELOPES 18K+ Well I got this idea from our friend Nina. She was making these super cute envelopes out of scrapbook paper and I really wanted to make some! So I came home and made some! They are so so SO simple and add a personal touch to your envelopes. You will need: An old magazine, scissors, an envelope, a glue stick and a Sharpie. Tear out some magazine pages that you like. Carefully pull the envelope apart. Trace the envelope on a magazine page. Cut the envelope shape out. Turn the envelope over as well as the magazine cut-out. Unfold everything and separate the magazine cut-out from the envelope. Glue the bottom flap down to the two side flaps. And you've made your own envelope! The great thing about making these envelopes our of magazine pages is that the envelopes have a character all of their own.
border punched ornaments I was excited to get a chance to use the new interchangeable border punches from Fiskars. They function the same way as their regular border punches, except you can pop out different design cartridges so they store very compactly! I used them to spice up the popular paper strip ornaments. Making stickers out of recycled paper Making stickers out of recycled paper October 25th, 2011 I recently discovered this great tutorial by Amanda Wood on how to make lovely stickers from recycled paper. The best thing about it is that the tutorial uses one of my favourite things – envelopes with funky security patterns. You will need: For the glue: 6 tbsp white vinegar 4 packages of unflavoured gelatin 1 tbsp flavouring such as peppermint, lemon or vanilla extract For the stickers: foam paint brush security envelopes or other papers from the recycling bin (enough glue for about 20 envelopes) paper punch (I used a 2″ scalloped circle punch in the picture) sponge for moistening stickers First of all you need to make the glue, so bring the vinegar to boil in a small pan. If you don’t want to go to all the hassle of making glue, you could always use ‘lick n stick’ glue – it’s the stuff I use for my recycled envelopes and you can get it here. To make the stickers, take apart your chosen envelopes and open them up flat.

I made ornaments every year with my mom as a child and creating this list reminded me of some of those classic ornaments. She still has some of them to hang on her tree! Have you ever made a quilted ornament without sewing? Those were some of my favorites! Top your gifts with glitter cookie cutters, make yarn wreaths with your children, add a favorite photo to a felt Polaroid ornament for your best friend…I could go on and on. There are a million ways to use these and they are all quick projects. Now you just need to set up an ornament party and make some with your friends and family.
D-I-Y: Loopy Christmas Balls | Laura Wears... Holiday DIY: Painted Ornament Tutorial Here's another simple yet cute ornament you can make with just a couple of supplies. Just like my yarn ornament tutorial showed, you can start with a simple glass or plastic ball ornament, fill it with scrap yarn and add some acrylic paint. Gather your supplies: yarn or fiber fill stuffingacrylic paint in selected colorssmall paint brushesplastic or glass clear ornaments For these ornaments, I used my scrap yarn leftover from my dandelion pom poms to fill the ornament. I also chose metallic acrylic paint for the penguin. The penguin is very simple. Next, choose black paint and dip the handle of your paint brush to make the eyes. A small yellow or orange triangle, painted upside-down, makes a simple beak. Add a wider triangle for each foot. And that's it! I also made a snowflake using simple lines and adding different sizes of dots on each line. These make great last minute stocking stuffers!
