Sewing Tips for Beginners & Pros With so much excitement about learning to sew, improving skills and the new Sew Crazy Monthly Challenges, I thought it would be a good time to pull together a list of all sorts of sewing tips for beginners, pros and everyone in between. Let’s face it, probably almost all of us have things to learn and things to work on in our sewing, so today I’ve got a list of 50 Sewing Tips, Tricks and Techniques to help you in your projects. Sewing Tips for Beginners and Pros: Here we go! I’ve broken it down into categories to make it easier. If you find other great tips and tricks online that you think would benefit others, feel free to send them to me and I can add them in.

Tutorials Hola there! Here you can find an organized list of all my tutorials, projects and printables. I want to point out that I am no sewing expert and have no formal education in either sewing or English (Spanish is my native language) So I might not always use the correct terminology or best technique, I am always learning too! Gift Ideas for poor creative souls (6) You know how it goes, a friend calls you and invites you to dinner at the last minute. OMG! What gift can you take?! You scrabble around the cupboards trying to find a box of chocolates or a bottle of wine but find that most of the chocolates have been eaten and the wine has gone.

Ten Ways to Dress Up a Ponytail Sometimes I'm just not in the mood to spend a lot of time on my hair. But at the same time, I don't want to look like a homeless hairdresser when I go to work, so I try to make my ponytails as fancy as possible. Here are ten easy ways I like to dress up my ponytail: 1. Wrap it with a strand of hair How To Mix Chalkboard Paint in Any Color We love using chalkboards as backdrops for displays and parties (like this one here!). So we were super excited to learn that you can create your own custom colors-and it's really easy! We first learned how from Martha Stewart whose tutorial you can read here. She recommends that you use latex paint, but we tried it out with acrylic paints with much success. Here's how you too can create your own chalkboard paint... Supplies: 1/2 cup acrylic paint (choose any color you like, or mix colors together to make the perfect shade!)

Adding Hidden Side Pockets to Anything (skirt, pants, shorts, etc.) A friend asked me a few weeks ago how to add side pockets into a skirt that she had. I tried explaining in words…..but I could tell the verbal explanation just wasn’t making sense. It was sounding way more complicated than it needed to be. Henna Tattoos Henna tattoos are perfect for summertime. They are natural, they are beautiful, and they are temporary! Because one batch of henna goes a long way, henna tattoos are a great activity for parties and are especially fun for kids at a sleep over. I tend to give them as part of celebrations, say at a baby shower or bachelorette party, but I also love giving them to people who need some love and healing. Felt Hot Pads Sometimes we get a new product in that is so universally adored by the entire staff of Purl Soho that we know we need to make a Purl Bee project out of it. Our latest obsession is the new natural colorway of the Mary Flanagan Felted Wool called "Oatmeal". It soft and fluffy and ever so slightly heathered in gorgeous natural ecru and brown shades. Every time I pass by it's shelf in the store I want to pull it out and touch it.

A Splendid Assemblage: Favorite Up-Do Hairstyle Tutorials for Summer Hair has always been my "thing" but I do develop certain "shave it all off" tendencies at least once a year. So far I haven't..I do wonder how that would feel though. There are so many fantastic hair tutorials out there that even in this heat I really don't mind how long my hair is.Except when my bangs get too long and then everything turns dark. Here are some of my favorite up-do and bun hair tutorials for these hot summer months or any season really :)
