Toast messenger by Sasha Tseng - StumbleUpon Carved Book Landscapes by Guy Laramee (click images for detail) For the better part of three decades multidisciplinary artist Guy Laramee has worked as a stage writer, director, composer, a fabricator of musical instruments, a singer, sculptor, painter and writer. Among his sculptural works are two incredible series of carved book landscapes and structures entitled Biblios and The Great Wall, where the dense pages of old books are excavated to reveal serene mountains, plateaus, and ancient structures. Of these works he says: So I carve landscapes out of books and I paint Romantic landscapes. Laramee’s next show will be in April of 2012 at the Galerie d’Art d’Outremont in Montreal.

This all sounds stimulating, I know, but have a little faith. With a background in Film and Television effects, he has been a commercial sculptor for 11 years, the last 5 working on his own art full time. Hi Sam, could you tell us a little about your background? How did you get started? I’ve always loved sculptural realism in art. Its evolved over the years but a beautifully sculpted figure always inspires me. What are you currently working on? Could you talk through the creative process for one of your recently completed projects? What do you hope the viewer will take away from your sculptures? Which of your projects has been the most rewarding? Your techniques seem similar to movie prop making? Which artists have influenced you, what has been an inspiration? Do you have any advice for people looking to get into sculpting and the creative industry? where can people see your work?

Using shadows to create a street art & This Blog Rules | Why go elsewhere? Instead of drawing graffiti on the walls, a NYC street artist Michael Neff has decided to use the shadows that lamp posts make to create street art. Neff is only using chalk and stone sediment to outline the shadows into stencils looking like figures or just simple art. This kind of street art is very neat and impressive to come across in the late hours. See more of Neff’s work here. Carved Rubber Tire For his series titled "Pneu", Belgian artist Wim Delvoye created a series of decorative objects by hand-carving intricate patterns and floral motifs on used car tires. Through his manipulation of found objects, Delvoye transforms things that seem useful in everyday life into sculptural pieces that carry a different value from their original intended purpose. Delvoye calls his own approach to art ‘glocal’, referring to ‘local’ and ‘global’, which is his own ironical way of describing art. Find out more about Wim's work here.

Hyper-Realistic Typographic Portraits (15 pics) They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In this set featuring hyper-realistic typographic portraits, that phrase is literally true. It's fascinating to see which words artists chose to construct the eyes, nose, and ears of their subjects. first pic source via tutorart Glass Panes 3D Painting Using multiple layers of clear glass, Canada based David Spriggs and Chinese born Xia Xiaowan, transform flat artwork into 3D sculptures. Viewers are treated to different shifting perspectives of the works based on where they stand in the art space. Spriggs work revolves around powerful explosive imagery, often resembling storms, cosmic blasts or firework like explosions. Xiawan’s “spatial paintings,” which often feature distorted figures, are drawn individually using colored pencil on tinted glass. Only when these pieces are combined on their floor racks do the images create the whole hologram like effect.
