Parts of Speech Activities - Layers of Learning I’ve been teaching my kids about the parts of speech in our writer’s workshop lately. I started with a quick overview about how our words do jobs for us. We used this Parts of Speech worksheet to briefly go over the parts of speech so the kids could understand what they were and the jobs they do in writing and speech. Then I assigned a part of speech to each day and we did some activities to help reinforce the ideas over the next couple of weeks. Click on the picture to get the printable Parts of Speech worksheet. Parts of Speech Activities We Did: Watched the Schoolhouse Rock Grammar Rock Videos that went with each part of speech. The biggest sheet is a full size sheet of construction paper. Of course, we’ll keep adding to these as we come across interesting words, and my kids now have their flip books by their side as they write so they can get ideas for vivid words and remember to use lots of description and full sentences as they write. untitled Bubble Prints! - After experimenting with several ways of doing bubble prints, I think I found a way that works well. I poured some kids bubbles into small containers. Then, I mixed a few drops of food coloring into the containers. The bubbles were cheapo and weren’t really bubbly, so I added some dish soap as well. Then, I blew bubbles just as you normally would blow bubbles and let them land on the paper. When they popped, they left these splatters and circle prints. Once upon an Art Room: Tinting and Shading- skills worksheet I put together this worksheet after seeing one similar on Pinterest (I will site the original post when I find it again). The kids seem to have enjoyed doing this a lot more than I thought they might - and it makes for a great assessment piece. *Tip: instead of using plastic mixing palettes, use scraps of cardboard. This version I adjusted for my younger students by having a simpler image for them to paint. Lessons Please download some (or all) of our 100% free premium Art Ed lesson plans. iLoveToCreate Blog: Easy Geo Canvas Art With geometric patterns popping up in clothing and home decor, it seemed a geo canvas art tutorial was just the ticket for today's post. The process is simple and the results stunning! For this project you will need: Art Canvas Some time ago I gave my sister some fabric that is pre-printed like a big ol' coloring book page. I also gave her a package of trusty Tulip Fabric Markers to color said fabric. Canvases can be found at big box stores and craft stores and come in lots and lots of sizes. Since I was working with children I drew the patterns for them to hand color themselves. Using a ruler, connect the marks from the lines and bing, bang, boom! Now, the kids I had acquired for this project became more interested in my iPad so I had to color in these bad boys myself. Choose a handful of colors and color in the shapes. When colored take a black marker and trace the lines and fill in any left over spaces. Choose a pattern and randomly use it on your colored areas. Color as desired...
