Ultimate Pirate Ship Bedroom (14 pics)
"The rope bridge is connected to the top of the jail cell, built to accommodate evil doers, thieves and little sisters." Designer Steve Kuhl fulfills every boy's fantasy with this insanely cool pirate ship bedroom. The six-year-old occupant from Minnesota chose between a space ship, race car, castle, and pirate ship. Most of us would probably agree, he made an excellent decision. The main feature of the room is the incredible floating pirate ship. But that's not all. Update: We talked to designer Steve Kuhl, asking him about the story behind the ultimate pirate ship bedroom. "This is what it looks like when you enter the bedroom. "Our client wanted us to build a one-of-a-kind bedroom for a one-of-a-kind son. "The base of the rope bridge is anchored on top of the jail cell. "As with many of the things we build, this is was a first. "We constructed the crows nest using a ten inch hand-hewn timber for extra strength. "Steve Kuhl tests the slide for accuracy.

Graphene is Next | h+ Magazine Valkyrie Ice Graphene. If you’ve never heard about it, don’t worry, a lot of people haven’t, because it’s really only been “discovered” relatively recently, and most of the truly interesting news about it has been in the last year. The amazing thing is that we’ve actually been using it for centuries, in the form of the common pencil. By now, most of you are familiar with carbon nanotubes, a.k.a. But that isn’t all. All of these properties make graphene a very important material for the future of electronics. Let’s think about that for a moment. That’s a jump of two or three orders of magnitude up the exponential curve, my friends, especially when you combine it with the advances in multi-core technology and parallel computing. We’re talking about that smartphone in your pocket having a thousand times the computing power of your desktop PC, but using no more power. That big a leap in processing speed will simplify a lot of extremely complex tasks that require extensive amounts of data.

Soft as a Rock (by @baekdal) #design Rocks, stones and pebbles have been used as decorative objects since... well... the stone age actually. But, rocks are usually a bit hard to be around. They often look cool, but you wouldn't exactly hug one - until now! Stephanie Marin is the creator of these amazing looking stones, which is actually very soft and comfortable cushions. Made of 100% virgin wool no less - although I have absolutely no idea what makes wool "virgin"... was it never used before? Update: See also Ronal Jordaan's Rock Cushions (much better looking than the ones above) Follow: 42Concepts What Mel Brooks Can Teach Us about “Group Flow” In 1949, the comedian Sid Caesar brought together a legendary group of comedy writers and created one of the biggest television hits of the 1950s, Your Show of Shows. Caesar’s team included Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, and Neil Simon. It may have been the greatest writing staff in the history of television. They developed the show in a small suite of rooms on the sixth floor of 130 West 56th Street in Manhattan. Caesar created a fun and improvisational environment, where the team would riff on each other’s ideas constantly. “Jokes would be changed 50 times,” Mel Brooks later remembered. Famed psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihaly coined the term “flow” to describe a particular state of heightened consciousness—what some people refer to as being “in the zone.” Researchers have spent a lot of time studying how individuals achieve flow, and how it benefits them and their work. Silk Tie Easter Eggs | Well, we’ve found our absolute favorite Easter egg dyes… of all time. No tablets, no food colors, no cups, no drips, no stained fingers or clothes, no spilling— I could go on and on. But seriously, the best part about this method is that everything you need is right in your kitchen and closet…or worst case—the thrift store. Your whole family is going to love this. Here’s what you’ll need: Eggs Silk ties–look for a tiny tag at the small end of the tie. An old, white T-shirt–cut it into squares big enough to wrap around the eggs String 3 Tablespoons of white vinegar Pot of water Vegetable oil Now then… Cut open the tie at the back and take out the facing fabric. Cut the silk into pieces big enough to cover the egg… Wrap it around your egg. Now, roll the egg up with the T-shirt fabric. The idea is to press the colored silk right up against the egg. The bald kid and I had a competition to see who could wrap their eggs the purtiest. He’s such a sillyboy. Anyway… Boil for 20-25 minutes. Remove the eggs…
