The program contributes to the Foundation's overall mission to support basic research in anthropology and to ensure that the discipline continues to be a source of vibrant and significant work that furthers our understanding of humanity's cultural and biological origins, development, and variation. The Foundation supports research that demonstrates a clear link to anthropological theory and debates, and promises to make a solid contribution to advancing these ideas. There is no preference for any methodology, research location, or subfield. The Foundation particularly welcomes proposals that employ a comparative perspective, can generate innovative approaches or ideas, and/or integrate two or more subfields.

Adam Gretton adam.gretton@archant.co.uk Friday, December 6, 2013 6:30 AM A Norwich-based scientist has joined a quest to help improve healthcare in a deprived African country after setting up a new charity. Peter Emmrich, who is a second year PhD plant science student at the John Innes Centre, at the Norwich Research Park, established the Doctors for Madagascar UK charity to help improve hospital facilities in the south of Madagascar. The 24-year-old, who spent three weeks in the Fotadrevo region of Madagascar in September, is organising charity concerts in Norwich and London to help raise funds and awareness for the charity. Mr Emmrich got involved in the charity quest after his brother, Julius, who is a doctor in Germany, helped set up Doctors for Madagascar two years ago.
