stencil with freezer paper (harry potter tee) Yes, I am a nerd. I came up with a brilliant idea for a Harry Potter t-shirt and I couldn't resist. "Expecto Patronum!" However, you can make whatever kind of design you want with a freezer paper stencil. It doesn't have to be Harry Potter related. I learned about the joys of freezer paper back in my early college days. Basically, freezer paper is backed with a plastic coating that will stick to soft surfaces when ironed, but it peels off cleanly and easily. To make a sweet t-shirt you will need: paper & pencil a t-shirt an iron a piece of cardboard or poster board fabric paint & brush Start by drawing your design on some regular old paper. My design kept getting bigger, so I taped two sheets together. Next, place your design underneath a sheet of freezer paper and trace it neatly with a sharpie. The marker gives your lines greater width making it easier to cut them out and paint them in later. Now place a piece of cardboard under your freezer paper to protect your table while you cut.
Little Red Infinity Dress Tutorial | Sew Like My Mom February 14, 2011 I’m always searching for a beautiful, well-fitting, versatile dress, and I finally found it. In fact, I MADE it. The infinity dress has got it all! I made my infinity dress in about 3 hours and for under $20! I found these infinity dresses on Craftster years ago and have always loved them. First, you need to do some measuring. So, 30/6.28 = 4.7. Then I decided on length of skirt and came up with 18″. To make your straps, you need to decide how wide to make them. To determine strap length, you need to make them 1.5 times your height. So, got that? To make your pattern, get packing paper, freezer paper, or a bunch of pieces of computer paper taped together. Then I measured 18″ down from that and made another line for my skirt length. Cut out on your lines. Now, keeping your fabric folded in half with selvages matched, fold the fabric in from the end so it’s doubled on itself. Next, cut a waistband 10″ tall and the length of your waist you measured. Now for construction.
Sweetheart Ballet Tee Tutorial Here’s yet another way to spice up your t-shirts when you get a little bored with the plainness of them all. I did this a few weeks ago to two of my plain tees. I’m threatening to do this on all of the t-shirts I own. Seriously. Watch out! This little ruching technique takes literally 2 minutes; the perfect way to jazz up an outfit on your way out the door. Materials: Fitted Tee Sewing Machine Coordinating thread Elastic thread Scissors Magic Erase Fabric Pen (not pictured) Cut the collar off: only cut a little around the back & cut more around the front to make a deeper neckline. Find the center of the front collar. HAND wind your bobbin with elastic thread. Turn your tee inside out and pull on the elastic thread until your shirt is as rouched as you’d like. Trim loose ends after securing the thread in place with a square knot. Dab the front of your shirt with water and a Q-tip to erase the magic marker line. FINI!
Striped Cardigan I decided to go completley out of my comfort zone and make a piece of clothing that wasn't a skirt. I have always stayed away from making a shirt or any sort of top, simply because it looks really hard and complicated. But I had a ton of this cute striped knit fabric that I had picked up from the fabric district a while ago and figured I would give it a try. It didn't even take a full yard of fabric. It worked! Basically I just took one of my favorite cardigans (I love how long it is), and traced each piece of it using muslin. I didn't take too many pictures while I was making it, because I wasn't really planning on it turning out right. I folded the fabric in half and made the stripes go vertical for the piece that goes around the neck and down the front. I had some gold buttons that I was originally planning on adding, but once I got this far, I thought that anything else might be a little much. I couldn't believe how easy it was!
3 Stitch Summer Dress Yet another Kitty dress tutorial! You know if I was able to do it, then it is super easy! Only 3 stitches needed, and minimal measuring! If you can sew a pillow- you can sew this :) First I found this fabric at Goodwill. I originally bought it for the my table cover at the farmers market, but now that the summer is ending...what better idea than to make a fun floral summer dress! Here are the very basic instructions. Yeah, not super detailed but there really isnt much to it! Extra tips: I guessed on the amount of fabric. The hem for the elastic- I folded over twice to make sure it would be secure and not unravel. Make sure your elastic is tight around your chest. You may not even need to hem the bottom. Of course I've got to give GmaV alot of the credit- she is the sewing master around here. I love how comfortable this is, I actually wear it for a friend’s wedding, we danced all night and I could have not being more comfortable =] well until Ken made me spin around and I felt like I was showing my shorts, but that was a whole different problem hehe. wanna make a dress?? i am PUMPED today! wanna know why? cause i’m gonna show you how to make quick, easy, and inexpensive dresses just like these! i know what y’all are thinking…no way that’s quick and easy. oh…you are SO wrong. it really is! go ahead…try it…and try to prove me wrong! i orginally found this brilliant idea here and was instantly motivated to try it. i did, however, change up some things along the way, such as making a long maxi dress, and one other thing in particular that will prevent a massive headache, so i’ll go ahead and post a tutorial here for you to see. i took the following pictures for the tutorial as i was sewing the long dress. i will make a note in each step where there is something different to do for the short dress. first things first…gather your supplies. all you need is a ribbed tank top and some coordinating fabric and thread. how cheap is that?? you’ll also need some elastic thread, but we’ll get to that. The Madeleine Mini Bloomers Hello! I keep forgetting to post this so here it is.
