We have spent a lot of time working with the graphics capabilities of DirectX. We also covered how the DirectX API allows us to control input devices. Now we are going to look at another facet of DirectX, the ability to control sound devices. This capability is found in the DirectSound and AudioVideoPlayback namespaces. Sound in Games Sound creates an ambiance in a game that provides for a more immersive game experience. Sound effects also provide the same audible cues we expect in real life, such as the direction and speed of a person approaching us based on the volume, direction, and frequency of the footsteps. In BattleTank2005 I want to integrate sound in the following way. Secondly, I want to be able to play background music during game play and I want to control what music plays when in the game. This idea is very inexpensive idea and it’s a great way to recycle a wine bottle. See how this simple idea inspired this brand and wine bottle design. It’s been a record year for mosquitoes here in Indianapolis, Indiana and I’d been wanting to add some Tiki-esque torches to the patio to combat the little buggers, and add a little ambiance. After searching the world over to find a torch that was affordable and atypical I came to the conclusion that unless I wanted wicker or bamboo, I needed to be a bit more resourceful. Its also a great asset when having fun in the outdoors. There are a wealth of different knots out there that you can learn to tie. Square Knot Also called a reef knot, this knot is useful for tying bandages, packages and joining shorter pieces of rope together. To begin, lay the ends of the ropes parallel and then pick up a rope in each hand. Now tie an overhand knot as you would for tying your shoe laces by putting the right end under and over the left rope end. Then tie another overhand knot, this time putting the left end under and over the right rope. Completed Square Knot Clove Hitch Like all hitches, this camping knot ties a rope to an object. To begin, bring the rope end over and under the post. Now, bring the rope end around a third time, and tuck it under the center of the X. Tighten by pulling the end and the main line apart. How to Buld a Pond - Build Your Own Backyard Pond If you've always wanted a backyard pond, you're not alone. Hundreds of thousands of homeowners already have them and thousands more are installing them every year. Why all the fuss over a water-filled hole? Well, for one thing, gurgling waterfalls are inherently appealing. But before you can start stocking aquatic plants and animals, such as fish, frogs, tadpoles and snails, you need the pond itself--and a source for supplies and equipment. Keep in mind that the project doesn't have to be huge. Digging It Once you've chosen a location for the pond, lay out the perimeter using rope or a garden hose. Now, line the hole and the pit with screened mason's sand and rake it smooth. Laying Rubber Fold the rubber liner lengthwise, center it over the hole and unfold it. We built this pond out of red New England fieldstone, which is relatively flat and easy to stack. Start stacking stones on the pond floor, also called the plant shelf (to differentiate it from the pump pit).
