Tiger Woods Scandal Tab: $100 Million and Counting

The Tiger Woods 'scandal' reaches a tipping point | Sport Saturday Night Live is an American institution; a weekend "satire" show that lampoons - or at least tries to - the news of the week and those who make it. Once upon a time, when the late, great Chris Farley was around, SNL was funny. It was briefly funny again last year, when Tina Fey did a brilliant send up of Sarah Palin. Otherwise, the show has been awful for years. How awful? Apart from being unfunny, the sketch was deemed by several bloggers - and the US-based National Coalition Against Domestic Violence - as being in extremely poor taste, given that it did make light of what, after all, is alleged domestic violence. TVsquad.com summed up the criticism: It's another one of those strange double standard things; had the tables been turned and a man was suspected of beating up his wife, there definitely wouldn't be a lighthearted sketch like this. Meanwhile, the New York Times was prompted to ask "Did Saturday Night Live go too far?" There is only one answer to that; yes.

US Lawmakers Express “Concern” Over Jay-Z, Beyonce Cuba Trip April 5, 2013 | 9:50 pm | Print Above: US Congressmen Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen By the Caribbean Journal staff Two United States lawmakers are expressing “concern” over a trip to Cuba this week by music stars Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles-Carter. The two reportedly traveled to Cuba to mark their fifth wedding anniversary. Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart have written a letter to Adam Szubin, director of the United States’ Office of Foreign Assets Control, seeking information on the type of licence the pair of stars received for their travel to Cuba. US citizens are permitted to travel to Cuba only under certain licences, such as people-to-people travel or educational endeavours. “We would like to respectfully request, within all applicable rules and guidelines, information regarding the type of licence that Beyoncé and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel,” the lawmakers wrote. 1 of 1

Tiger Woods Attacked By Hot Dog-Slinging Fan Even uber-serious, oft-maligned, down-in-the-dumps Tiger Woods had to laugh off an incident in which he was attacked by a flying hot dog while putting Sunday. Yes, this actually happened. And it was not Joslyn James. A male fan ran toward the 7th green where Woods was lining up a putt, screamed out "Tiger!" and - relish the thought - threw a hot dog at the golfer. It missed. Insert inappropriate joke about Tiger Woods and meat-slinging here. Reports say the perpetrator dropped to the ground in waiting-to-be-arrested mode upon letting the frank loose. "Some guy just came running on the green, and he had a hot dog, and evidently, I don't know how he tried to throw it, I was kind of focusing on my putt," said Woods. "Next thing I know, he was just laying on the ground, and looked like he wanted to be arrested because he ... put his hands behind his back and turned his head."

Venezuela candidate: Govt exploits Chavez death CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuelan opposition leader Henrique Capriles on Sunday launched what many consider a doomed candidacy to replace Hugo Chavez with a no-holds-barred attack against a government he accused of coldly betraying Venezuelans' trust. Chavez's political heirs have toyed with Venezuelans' hopes, lying to them about his deteriorating health by suggesting he could recover and even producing decrees he supposedly signed, said Capriles, whom Chavez defeated by a 12-point margin in October. He did not make direct reference to the decision to embalm Chavez and put him on permanent display, but he said: "You are playing politics with the president's body." Capriles accused the socialist government that Chavez left behind after 14 years in power of meticulously planning a campaign to assure the election of Nicolas Maduro, Chavez's desired successor. "Who knows when President Chavez (really) died," he asked. "You have made the biggest mistake of your life," Maduro said.

Tiger Woods scandal – Woods in intense marriage counseling | City Brights: Zennie Abraham UPDATE: Jesper Parnevik, who introduced Woods and Nordegren, blasts Woods. Tiger Woods is in intense marriage counseling. This comes as reports fly around regarding what his wife Elin Nordegren would get if she filed for divorce. For example, if the Tiger Woods scandal (which continues with Rachel Uchitel’s press conference today) ends with a divorce between Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren, the Herald Sun reports she would realize a settlement payout of $300 million. But that $300 million figure has been floating around unsubstantiated, so I’m not going to use it as anything more than a jumping-off point for blogging. The matter of a divorce payout is more complicated than the Herald Sun presents and Nordegren’s already receiving a “stay home” gift. For those of you math challenged that’s at least $1 million. Moreover, Zwecker writes that Woods original prenup required Nordegren to remain married to Woods for over 10 years, and then she would receive $20 million. Stay tuned. Focus Blog |

Cubans evade censorship by exchanging computer memory sticks, blogger says PUEBLA, Mexico — Dissident Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez on Saturday told newspaper publishers from around the Western Hemisphere that “nothing is changing” in Cuba’s ossified political system and that “the situation of press freedom in my country is calamitous.” But Sanchez said underground blogs, digital portals and illicit e-magazines proliferate, passed around on removable computer drives known as memory sticks.. The small computer memories, also known as flash drives or thumb drives, are dropped into friendly hands on buses and along street corners, offering a surprising number of Cubans access to information. “Information circulates hand to hand through this wonderful gadget known as the memory stick,” Sanchez said, “and it is difficult for the government to intercept them. Sanchez said “these little gizmos” have “helped us a lot to pass information.” Sanchez’s blog, Generation Y, is translated into more than 20 languages, and she has nearly 440,000 followers on her Twitter account.

Peter Moore says Tiger Woods Scandal hasn't Affected Sales Following Tiger Woods's media-saturating infidelity scandal, a lot of the golfer's sponsors ended their relationship with him -- but not EA Sports. They made a very public decision to stick with the athlete who's been the cover star of their golf game franchise since 1999, and in an interview with CNBC, president Peter Moore says they haven't seen any affect to sales as a result. "We've looked actually at the overall franchise for calendar year 2008 and 2009 and are slightly up when we look at all platforms for the Tiger franchise," Moore said. "Despite what has gone on in his personal life, we've seen no negative impact on sales." This is, however, potentially a bit misleading. Still, Moore reiterated their position regarding Tiger Woods, saying that they "stand by Tiger as an athlete" and that "we still see him obviously as the world's greatest golfer and continue to stand by him as such."

General: Heart attack killed a suffering Chavez CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - President Hugo Chavez died of a massive heart attack after great suffering and inaudibly mouthed his desire to live, the head of Venezuela's presidential guard said late Wednesday. "He couldn't speak but he said it with his lips ... 'I don't want to die. Please don't let me die,' because he loved his country, he sacrificed himself for his country," Gen. Jose Ornella told The Associated Press. The general said he spent the last two years with Chavez, including his final moments, as Venezuela's president of 14 years battled an unspecified cancer in the pelvic region. Ornella spoke to the AP outside the military academy where Chavez's body lay in state. Ornella did not respond when asked if the cancer had spread to Chavez's lungs. The government announced on the eve of Chavez's death that he had suffered a severe new respiratory infection. Venezuelan authorities have not said what kind of cancer Chavez had or specified exactly where tumors were removed.
