Curriculum - Mathematics / Elementary Math Kindergarten MathThe kindergarten mathematics program uses a concrete manipulative approach to counting objects through ten; recognizing, sequencing, and writing numerals through ten; and associating set, numeral and ordinal position. The student is introduced to sets and numerals through twenty, six basic geometric shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, ellipse, and rhombus), comparative terms, positional location, telling time by the hour, naming days of the week, and patterning. Some children are introduced to simple addition and subtraction. First Grade MathFirst grade mathematics students use manipulatives to recognize, extend, describe, and create a wide variety of patterns. Second Grade MathMathematics in second grade is taught through a variety of instructional strategies including using manipulative materials, writing and discussing mathematics, and using calculators and computers.

Addition & Subtraction Games Students place markers on the numbers 2-12. Students toss two 6-sided dice, find the sum and remove a marker from that number, if there is still one. The first player to remove all markers wins the game. This game can be used as addition practice or as an introduction to the probability of the different outcomes of rolling two dice. עיר המשולשים - מיון משולשים לפי צלעות וזוויות בשקופית זו מוצגת פעילות מיון. יש לצלם לתלמידים לקראת הפעילות את דף המשימה השני שכונת הצלעות. גם כאן, חשוב שכל תלמיד ישתתף בפעילות באופן עצמאי, והמצגת תשמש כלי לדיון ולמשוב. מטרת הפעילות: לבנות את שכונת הצלעות. לפני התלמידים מוצגים בזה אחר זה פריטים מהרחוב – בתים, כלי רכב, תמרורים ועוד. כדאי לשאול: כיצד תמדדו את אורכי צלעות המשולשים? על צלעות המשולשים המרכיבים את האביזרים ישנן נקודות המסמנות אורך יחידת מידה שרירותית. בשכונה זו התלמידים מתבקשים לצבוע את המשולשים המסומנים על הכיכר המרכזית בשכונה על פי התבוננות כפולה בכל משולש – הן על פי הצלעות והן על פי הזוויות. התלמידים יכולים תחילה לזהות אילו מן המשולשים הם משולשים ישרי זווית על פי הזווית הישרה המסומנת, ואחר כך לבדוק אילו מבין כל המשולשים ישרי הזווית הם משולשים שווי שוקיים. גם כאן, חשוב שכל תלמיד ישתתף בפעילות באופן עצמאי, והמצגת תשמש כלי לדיון ולמשוב. אחרי שהתלמידים צבעו את המשולשים הנדרשים בדף לתלמידים, מומלץ להזמין מתנדבים שיצבעו בכל פעם בצבע אחר את המשולשים הרלוונטיים, ויענו על השאלה כמה משולשים מצאתם?
