Slavernij verleden is geen herdenking van de Nederlanders - George Arakel Gisteren was de herdenking van 151 jaar afschaffing slavernij. Sinds 1 juni waren groepen mensen en stichtingen begonnen met activiteiten organiseren rondom dit thema. Een maand lang hebben zij zich geestelijk voorbereid op de officiële herdenking en ontlading, die gisteren plaats heeft gevonden. Het is voor mij als buitenstaande toekijker inspirerend en ontroerend om te zien hoe mensen, van wie de voorouders de dupe zijn geweest, van de slavernij zich zo actief bezig houden met dit deel van de pijnlijke geschiedenis. Zoveel mensen, en vooral jongeren, die de pijn nog dragen die is geleden. Slavernij verleden in Nederland is niet een zwarte bladzijde in de geschiedenis van Nederland, maar een bladzijde die eruit is gescheurd En als iemand die er buiten staat (ik ben niet Nederlands en heb ook geen Afrikaanse voorouders), zie ik Nederland en het overgrote gedeelte van de Nederlanders precies het tegenovergestelde doen, zij negeren het. Herdenking slavernij begint met gemengde gevoelens Afgelopen 1 juli was de herdenking van het slavernijverleden, die gehouden werd in het Oosterpark in Amsterdam. Tijdens de herdenking nam een groepje Afro-Nederlandse burgers ongevraagd het woord en eisten om gehoord te worden. De herdenkingsceremonie rondom het Nederlandse slavernijverleden, beter bekend als Keti Koti, begon dinsdagochtend met een mars van het Amsterdamse stadhuis naar het Oosterpark. Dit jaar is de Nederlandse slavernij 151 jaar afgeschaft. Maar de NOS is van mening dat het 200 jaar is. Een groep die zich uitbeelden als slaven, liep als het hoofd van de tocht mee. Een deel van de mensen binnen de Afro-Nederlandse gemeenschap hebben het gevoel dat zij worden gezien als tweederangsburgers. It possesses tools that anyone, anthropologists and non-anthropologists alike, can use to bring social transformation. The problem is that today cultural anthropology operates within certain contexts that limit this potential. The challenge facing cultural anthropology is whether it can rise above these contexts to realize its potential as a field. Chapter 1 sets the stage for exploring these questions.
