The MacGyver Approach to Winter Biking (Zip Ties!) Photo: Dutch Bike Co., used with permission. Low-Cost Solution to Keep On Bikin' One of the cyclists at Dutch Bike Co was caught without studded tires when it started snowing in Seattle, but no matter, that's nothing that a box of zip ties can't fix! Fritz Rice, the DIYer on these photos, says that while the ties look "completely ludicrous", they work "beautifully": I can accelerate, brake, and corner with aplomb, even on the vile snowpack/sheet ice mix the plows leave in the bike lanes. As you can see on this last photo, the tie heads as position so that they give extra grip when you are cornering, but they stay out of the way when going in a straight line. Cool, eh? Patriot gauntlets An alternative to lou duff style arm gauntlets. This was the basis for the 600 foot rope mummification I once did at Shibaricon The main bulk of the rope will always be behind what you are tying around. The tie itself is just bringing parts up to the front. Make a bunny ear on the left side. This bunny ear will be laying in front. Make another bunny ear on the right side. Pass the right bunny ear through the left. Make another bunny ear on the left side. Important: Place the end of the rope in between the two bunny ears you have at this point. Pass the left bunny ear through the right. Pull the bunny ear toward you to tighten everything up. Pull the bunny ear toward you to tighten everything up. continue the three step process. When you run out of rope, just leave the end as it is without make a bunny ear. Pass the end all the way through the last bunny ear you did. Pull the end toward you to tighten everything up. The finished pattern has a center ridge that looks like a braid.

{every}nothing wonderful: Tutorial: Repurposed Envelopes (From Magazines to Mailing) Note: If you like this idea, be sure to check out how to make paper ruffles to add to your envelopes! Super quick and easy tutorial for you today. I have a drawer full of these and use them for everything - bills, letters, you name it...my mom does too, actually! I recently received an oversized catalog for baby strollers (why? I have more than one that I barely use). To start just pull pages out of your catalog or magazine with images you love. Other supplies you'll need: Pencil Glue - glue stick or craft glue - whichever you prefer Old envelope or envelope template. If this is a project you see yourself recreating in the future or with other papers you could invest in an envelope template kit, or you can print templates (you'll need to print at 100% on a larger format printer) from Designer's Toolbox on a heavy stock (mount to board for a longer lasting template). Trace the shape of your envelope onto the page, finding the position that you prefer on the image/page. Happy re-purposing!

Ten games that make you think about life At the start of this year, we decided to come up with a list of Flash casual games with a philosophical bent. To be honest, we struggled. After days of research, we could only find a handful of games that had the thought-provoking depth we were looking for. Our list (which you can view by clicking here) was therefore only five games long. Fast forward to now, and it is remarkable how much difference a few months can make. In a wonderful twist, it seems it is the Flash gaming space - until now known more for the throwaway nature of its games rather than depth - that is leading the way in this exciting new area of gaming, as we hope the following games prove. One you have finished playing these games, check out our follow-up lists: Ten More Games That Make You Think About Life and Another 20 Games That Make You Think About Life. 1Immortall The game starts with you crash landing on a planet. 2Loved 3I Can Hold My Breath Forever 4The Company of Myself 5Coma 6Loondon 7I Wish I Were the Moon
