Steering a tricky course: is rapid development destroying the Keralan way of life? | Travel I'm lying on my back. It's night and a tropical rain shower is pattering gently on the thatched coconut leaves. Lovely. But there is something else too: a skittering and rustling sound. Like an antelope on the savanna, oblivious to the approaching lion, the moth stops and - dies in the predator's jaws. In the morning my friend Raj is pleased to hear of giant arachnids in his roofs. He takes me on a tour of the hillsides, scrambling up to the viewpoint from where we can see Kerala stretched out beneath us, a sea of coconut trees with hardly a break. "Don't be misled by the view," Raj warns me. He's not the only one to think so. Even just a decade ago India appeared to be a country with impressive green credentials. Travelling down from Raj's place in the hills towards the coast, the problems are obvious. "They use local sand for the cement," he points out, "but a lot of it is mined illegally from the backwaters, destroying the rivers." "Where will you go?" He shrugs. Where to stay

Photographing the Waning Population of the Faroe Islands | The Weather Channel The Faroe Islands are an archipelago of 18 islands separated by narrow sounds and fjords in the North Atlantic, halfway between Scotland and Iceland. Known for their striking landscapes and seclusion, the Faroe Islands are home to some 2 million pairs of birds, such as puffins, starlings and storm petrels, as well as a disappearing community of artists, fishermen and farmers. Belgian photographer Kevin Faingnaert dreamed of visiting for many years, and recently visited the most sparsely populated towns on the islands. Locally referred to as "Maybeland" due to its unpridictable weather, there's a saying on the islands: "If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes." Since Faingnaert visited during February, the daylight lasted only about six hours. "The smallest villages enjoy a silent northern beauty and secludedness. Not Even a Rattlesnake Bite Could Stop This Colorado Couple's Wedding Photo Shoot (PHOTOS) | The Weather Channel Newlywed couple Johnny Benson and Laura Loretz were all smiles for their wedding photo shoot at Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins, Colorado. (Maddie Wilbur ) Nothing can stand in the way of true love, but that lesson was put to the test when a Colorado couple's wedding photo shoot turned into a reminder that rattlesnake season has arrived in the Centennial State. A series of photos captured by Colorado-based photographer Maddie Wilbur shows the happy couple Johnny Benson and Laura Loretz beaming by the water, walking hand-in-hand in a vast field of grass – then posing with a doctor and nurse in a hospital room. For better or for worse: newlyweds Johnny Benson and Laura Loretz smile (and grimace) for the camera as a park ranger elevates Benson's rattlesnake-bitten leg. (Maddie Wilbur) According to CBS Denver, the trio was shooting the photos at Horsetooth Reservoir in Larimer County when the groom was bitten on the leg by a rattlesnake.

Alberta Canada – Photographing Banff and Jasper | William Patino Photography Jagged spires and monolithic masses of earth rise in all directions as you make your way through the Rockies, countless photographic opportunities present themselves and it quickly becomes evident that even a life time here wouldn’t be enough. Within Banff alone there are dozens of incredible locations to shoot and then hitting the Trans-Canada highway toward Lake Louise opens things up tenfold. The Trail Head café in the Lake Louise Village became a second home for a couple of days as we hiked to Consolation Lakes, Lake Agnes and Eiffel Lake as well as stopping by the irresistible Lake Moraine and Lake Louise. Heading along the Icefields Parkway toward Jasper, the sheer size and expanse of the Rockies is revealed as open valleys give way to a sea of jagged mountains and endless evergreen trees.
