The first of these steps through the last 200 years in Islington focusing especially on the area south of the Angel. As well as revealing very localised historical events and struggles for rights, this walk also brings out a series of international connections between people in Islington and political campaigns in India, France, Russia, Spain and South Africa. The walk reaches its furthest point before turning back, at Clerkenwell Green, a popular venue for protests and rallies over the last 200 years and described as the “home of community, commonality and solidarity”. Walks illuminating the radical history of two other boroughs are planned for 2012.
