5 Steps to Reinvent Yourself

5 Steps to Reinvent Yourself
“You’re never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream.” ~C. S. Lewis Change means reinvention. Each time a major shift happens in our lives—leaving a job or a relationship, moving, losing a loved one—we have to take control of who we will become or risk never reaching our full potential. I’ve reinvented myself several times in my life. But what I always forget is that we have to choose reinvention. When I’ve waited for my future to find me, I’ve waited in vain, lost in confusion and sadness, or I’ve gotten tangled up in a situation I didn’t want. One morning, after struggling for months with grief and loss, I woke up and realized that I was having so much trouble moving forward partly because I had no idea what it was that I wanted to move toward. That morning, I woke with a vision: a crowd of people from the life I needed to leave behind with the sun rising opposite them and me standing between the two, the sun beating down on my face. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Learn On Your Own: Independent Scholar Resource Plan One of the most challenging and gratifying parts of learning alone is the opportunity to search for and select your own learning material. Students in traditional classrooms usually don’t get to decide how they are going to master course content. Instructors decide for them in the form of textbook selection, quizzes, tests, group projects, etc. As an independent learner, you can make your study time more effective by using only the learning methods that work for you. A resource plan is a document used to brainstorm the learning material you can use when you begin your studies. This article will show you how to create a resource plan to use in your independent studies. Step 1: Set a Goal The first step to creating a resource plan is to decide on a single goal. Ineffective Goal – Learn HTMLEffective Goal – Create several websites using HTML, referring only minimally to a coding book. Step 2: Collect Materials Books – The written word is still one of the best ways to learn a subject.

The Self-Taught Master: How To Become An Autodidact LonerWolf Ray Bradbury, Frank Zappa, Stanley Kubrick, Benjamin Franklin, Malcolm X, Julian Assange … some of the greatest and most successful people in history were autodidacts. As author and autodidact Helen Beatrix Potter once noted: “thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of my originality.” In a world where formal education is the only respected form of learning, it’s no wonder that many of us opt to dish out thousands of dollars to be “taken seriously”, over the more contemplative and powerful form of self-education. In fact, many of the most passionate and talented writers, artists, film directors, philosophers and musicians were vehemently against traditional forms of education. Mark Twain, George Bernard Shaw, Albert Einstein and Margaret Mead were all highly talented self-learners who spoke up against the innumerable limitations of formal education. Anyone Can Be An Autodidact Why Education Makes You Stupid I quit university for a number of reasons. 1. 2.

Reinvent Yourself in 21 Days Can a mop and a dust cloth bring happiness and luck? Back in August, I picked up a book written by Mr. Mitsuhiro Masuda (in Japanese) who advocates the power of cleaning and decluttering. Now, I know grabbing a dust cloth and reorganizing the bookshelf is as boring as it gets in personal development. Many people are big on decorating their place. The book came with the 21 day action plan. Ready? Letting the fresh air cleanse and refresh the place Day 1: Open the windows to change the air. Day 2: Open the windows first thing in the morning and take a few deep breaths. Day 3: Open the windows first thing in the morning, take a few deep breaths, and say “Thank you.” You want to keep the good habit of caring for your personal space. What is your baggage literally? Day 4: Take out everything from your wallet and throw away unnecessary items such as old receipts and coupons. Day 5: Do the same with your purse or bag. Day 6: Check the address book in your cell phone or PDA. How it worked for me

THERE’S NO PAINLESS WAY TO KILL YOURSELF Altucher Confidential Posted by James Altucher I gave my 11 year old daughter important advice the other day: there’s no painless way to kill yourself. “What about with a gun?” she said. I told her about a friend of mine who shot himself in the mouth. He put the gun in his mouth and pointed upwards towards the brain. He missed. He shot off half his face, he went blind in one eye, and he is now in a wheelchair. If you type in “I Want to Die” into google, my website is the first result. My first business I sold for $15 million. Mobb Deep would hang out in my office. Then I saw that kids in junior high school were learning HTML. I bought an apartment for millions. Then I started more companies. From June 2000 until September, 2001 I probably lost $1 million a month. I couldn’t stop. I wanted to be loved. Writing this now I even feel like slitting my wrists and stomach. I felt like I was going to die. I lost all my friends. There were no jobs, There was nothing. I tried meditation to calm down but it didn’t work.

The 27 Principles To Teaching Yourself Anything “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.” —Mark Twain Note: This post is intentionally long. It’s meant to be our compass for learning the skills that matter in the world and throwing theory out the window. Read it. Save it. At the end of this post I’ve even provided two free PDF downloads to further guide you towards learning what matters (one is a list of over 30 of the best online resources for creating your own passion-filled curriculum). Enter the Unofficial Self-Guided Education Manifesto… Last week’s article on The Birth of Self-Guided Education caught like wildfire. When that happens, I know a topic deserves some respect. Many of last week’s comments blew my mind. Living Legends create their own education. The truth of the matter is every Living Legend (whether they dropped out of high school or got a couple PhD’s) took their education and their learning into their own hands. Please log in here... How you see yourself and how others see you may be quite different. It is hard to be objective about oneself - after all, one is being oneself and therefore there is no distance from which to view. Eysenck, however, as a behavioral psychologist believed that personality, like intelligence, is determined to a large extent by a person's genes and is unchangeable beyond an effort to cover up negative traits through learned behavior. Of great significance in the development of personality is an individual's experience, both pleasurable and painful, in this lifetime, from birth onwards. So the results of this Questionnaire should be seen as an instructive guide to your present psychological makeup and an indication of areas of your life that you may choose to transform by applying appropriate techniques of personal development. You will need to register to begin the questionnaire.

3 Words That Guarantee Failure People who fail to achieve goals almost always signal their intent to fail by using three little words: "I will try..." There are no three words in the English language that are more deceptive, both to the person who says them and the person who hears them. People who say "I will try" have given themselves permission to fail. No matter what happens, they can always claim that they "tried." People who hear "I will try" and don't realize what it really means are fooling themselves, by thinking there's a chance that the speaker will actually succeed. People who really and truly achieve goals never say "I will try." Instead, they always say "I will do" something–or, better yet, "I must do" whatever the task is. As a wise (though fictional) guru once said: "Do, or do not.
