The Sweetie Pie Hat When I first designed the Sweetie Pie Hat four years ago, I had plenty of time on my hands to create patterns. With no one tugging at my sleeve while I knit, I had deep reserves of concentration and loads of patience. But now that I have a one and half year old, updating an old beloved pattern with new yarn and simpler instructions is about all I can handle!! The original Sweetie Pie Hat was striped, because back then, I had no reason to mind switching colors every eight rows (not to mention weaving in all those ends!).

They give your whole outfit refreshing look and most importantly make you comfortable. The Woodsy's Bulletin Board Circular Crocheted Shrug You will require 2 or 3 skeins of sock wool for a light summer shrug, depending on your size and the coverage you want for your shrug; or the equivalent yardage in worsted or chunky for a winter shrug. I recommend making the summer shrug first so you can track your yardage as you go. Measure the fullest point of the bust, add 2”, and divide in half (this give you X”).

Colorblock Hand Warmers The sweet spot of knitting, for me, is when it starts to feel a lot like painting. When the form is fluid and mutable and when the palette is supple and free, then I feel that knitting really hits its creative stride. Creating these Colorblock Hand Warmers delivers just that kind of deeply satisfying experience. The idea behind these simple mitts was to give free rein to the gorgeous colors of Madeline Tosh Merino Light, to allow the spectacularly hand dyed palette to speak its own story and to create its own beauty: from moonlight gray to buttery yellow to bronzed apricot to blazing tangerine. Free #Crochet Pattern: Get Whale Soon Tissue Box Cover Crochet is many things. It is beautiful, it is therapeutic, it is creative. And sometimes it is very very silly. Ahem. Introducing the Get Whale Soon Tissue Box Cover! Whale whale whale, what have we here… a whale sized summer cold? Ribbed Hand Warmers If you're a careful reader of the Purl Bee, you may have noticed by now what a big fan I am of hand warmers. I love how practical they are (no holding dirty mittens between your teeth while you fish around for keys); I love how fast they are to make (you just can't say that about too many knitted things!); I love how flattering they are on everybody's hands; and, for all these reasons, I love how perfectly suitable they are as gifts (I'm remembering recent recipients: friend Claudia has a pair, so do aunt Bretta, cousin Katie, and sister-in-law Jen.).

Hermione's Everyday Socks pattern by Erica Lueder This pattern is available as a free Ravelry download Hermione, as described in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series, is a rather smart and practical heroine. While she can dress up with the best of them, these socks remind me of something she might wear while practicing charms or transfiguration or reading up on Arithromancy in the Gryffindor Common Room. This sock is knit from the cuff down and features a garter stitch edged slip stitch heel. The pattern itself is written for one size, but with a 4 stitch pattern repeat, it is easily customizable to fit whatever size one desires.
