Le social bookmarking a toujours été important, même si on en parlait plus. En effet, quand Google dit que le bouton +1 sera un signal apporté par les internautes, il faut bien comprendre par là que le bouton +1 sera le nouveau critère de son algorithme pour le classement des pages. D'ailleurs, David Byttow, ingénieur logiciel chez Google déclarait : "Nous regardons le bouton +1 comme un des nombreux signaux que nous utilisons pour déterminer la pertinence d'une page ainsi que son classement, tout comme avec les signaux en provenance des réseaux sociaux. Cette déclaration de Byttow peut signifier que le bouton +1 gagnera en importance dans l'algorithme de Google pour certainement finir par devenir le nouveau pagerank.
