The Geeky Chef

The Geeky Chef
From the Avatar: The Last Airbender television series A while back I did a poll to see which Avatar: The Last Airbender food you guys wanted to see most, and you chose Five Flavor Soup. This soup appeared in Season 3 in the episode "The Puppetmaster" where it was made for Avatar Ang's gang by the waterbender Hama, who wanted to serve them a traditional Southern Water Tribe dish while they were hiding in the Fire Nation. Like Avatar itself, this dish has mixed Asian influence. There were a few assumptions I made based on what little information is presented in the episode. The major assumption is that the soup is vegetarian, because Ang, who does not eat meat, chows down on it happily.

Cauldron Cakes This is part II of my mini-series on Harry Potter snacks from the books brought to life (part I is on Honeydukes treats, part III features every wizard's favorite drink—butterbeer!— and part IV showcases decadent butterbeer cupcakes). When I was young, I wanted to grow up to be a writer. I also wanted to be a teacher, deep sea diver, and a cashier at McDonald's, but that's a different story.

La La Love You Is it weird that Valentines Day is one of my #1 favorite holidays? Especially considering the fact that I can't actually remember the last time I've had a boyfriend during this emo-as-hell day? Maybe it's just that I le love the idea of love (and that i want my life to be a magnetic fields song). But this also might stem from my preconceived ideas about living in New York. When I moved up here I had this really romantic idea that I'd find a super cute boyfriend who listened to good music, had a nice pup pup, and a sweet smile. Whenever we'd walk around, Jens Lekman and Todd Rundgren would be playing in the background and we'd drink bottles of wine all day in Central Park and laugh until our teeth fell out.

Slash Fiction is Like a Banquet Slash Fiction is Like a Banquet is an essay written by Arduinna in early 1999 in response to a mailing list discussion about the rash of very similar, often very short, stories being posted at the time.[1] It was first published on the web as a guest rant on Sandy Herrold's website, Confessions of a Fannish Butterfly.[2] Shortly thereafter, it went up on Arduinna's website as well. Some fans know it as "the hummus essay." The central metaphor of the essay holds that the world of slash fandom is like a banquet to which we each bring a beloved dish...but once it becomes customary to bring lemon-garlic hummus from the store, everyone starts bringing the same thing, and as a result our feast is impoverished.

Love styles Love styles are modi operandi of how people love, originally developed by John Lee (1973,[1] 1988[2]). He identified six basic love styles—also known as "colours" of love—that people use in their interpersonal relationships: Clyde Hendrick and Susan Hendrick of Texas Tech University expanded on this theory in the mid-1980s with their extensive research on what they called "love styles". They have found that men tend to be more ludic, whereas women tend to be storgic and pragmatic.

The Wave Theory of Slash "From the grand Bitchy Old Fan wisdom generated by five years in fandom, with the aid of a friend who’s spent ten years in fandom, I present a slightly different categorising system. First Wave Fandom: Fanfic what was in zines. Second Wave Fandom: Fandom what was on mailing lists.
