EUROPEAN STANDARDS ORGANIZATIONS CENELEC is a European regional standards organization that together with its sister organizations CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, compose the so-called and known European Standards Organizations (ESOs) that are officially recognised by the European Commission and act as a European platform through which European Standards are developed. In the European Union, only standards developed by CEN, CENELEC and ETSI are recognised as 'European Standards'. Hence, CENELEC closely cooperates with CEN and ETSI; working jointly in the interest of European harmonization, creating both standards requested by the market and harmonized standards in support of European legislation. CEN, CENELEC, ETSI are the regional mirror bodies to their international counterparts, i.e. For more information, you can visit www.cen.eu

DIN - Deutsches Institut für Normung DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, is the gateway to global standardization. DIN’s goal is to develop standards that have validity worldwide. These help remove technical barriers to trade and add to the exporting strength of German industry. DIN represents German national interests in Europe and throughout the world. Participation in standards work at DIN gives German experts access to decision-making processes in supranational standards committees.

Wayne Hodgins H. Wayne Hodgins 2002 Hans Karlsson Award ________________________________________________ LiNE Zine - Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Learning Standards History shows that revolutionary changes do not take off without widespread adoption of common standards. For electricity, this was the standardization of voltage and plugs; for railroads, the standard gauge of the tracks; and for the Internet, the common standards of TCP/IP, HTTP, and HTML. Common standards for metadata, learning objects, and learning architecture are mandatory for similar success of the knowledge economy. Fortunately, the work to create such standards for learning objects and related standards has been going on around the world for the past few years. This includes the creation of accredited standards from the IEEE Learning Technology Standards Committee (LTSC) for Learning Object Metadata, Computer Managed Instruction, Course Sequencing, Learner Profiles and much more.
