Meer over Eelco de Boer » Buildings Sprout Living Walls by Green Over Grey | ArchDaily White Rock, a small surburb outside of Vancouver, Canada can now boast to having the largest green wall in North America thanks to Green Over Grey, Vancouver, Canada-based company that design and install green walls (also known as living walls). The once bare 3000 square foot wall is now a lush garden of a wide variety of plant life. It is located on the facade of the Semiahmoo Public Library and RCMP Facility. This living wall is literally a breathing, photosynthesizing skin. It consists of over 10,000 individual plants representing more than 120 unique species. Among these are ground covers, large perennials, shrubs and small trees. “The large diversity of plant species chosen creates a balanced ecosystem that is an urban oasis for bees, butterflies and hummingbirds,” says Patrick Poiraud, Principal at Green over Grey – Living Walls and Design, the Vancouver-based company designing and constructing the wall. Ada Street / Amin Taha Architects | ArchDaily Located off Broadway Market, south of London Fields in one of the poorer, but upcoming east-end areas, Ada Street accommodates six apartments above two small retail units in an area with the largest number of different languages spoken in the city with the largest population of artist per square kilometer in Europe. With creative shops, bars and clubs to reflect the Local Authority’s more relaxed approach to design aesthetics, Amin Taha Architects formed a structure asymmetrical in appearance with subtly battered and sloping walls and floor plates and a gentle scattering of window openings. The building is finished in an all-encompassing monolithic black render making up all external elements of the building including, parapets, sills, and window reveals. The client expressed an ambition for utility and unadorned domesticity.
