78 Tools for Writing and Previewing Markdown Markdown is a text-based markup language created by John Gruber in 2004 as a way to write in an easy-to-read format that can be converted into HTML. It uses a very simple formatting syntax of familiar punctuation and characters, which makes writing content for the web a faster and more intuitive experience. As Markdown grows in popularity, new tools and applications have sprung up to cater to writing, converting and previewing the markup language. From tutorials, WordPress plugins and books to dedicated Markdown Service Tools for OS X, there is a wealth of excellent resources available.

CIE Literature Poetry is a major component of both iGCSE and A-Level Literature. It’s something that usually puts the fear of God into students and leads to a good deal of ineffectual moaning. Unfortunately, moaning isn’t going to help you, so try to embrace it and ignore temptations to dismiss it as nonsense… Hopefully, with the help of my notes and analysis, you’ll enjoy the poems covered and understand that studying them is not as painful as it at first seems. On this site you will find: BoomWriter BoomWriter lets you easily incorporate and experience the benefits of technology as your students are engaged in the following (or similar) standards-based learning activities: Grade 3 CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.3 - Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences. The role of videos in the teaching and learning of content in a foreign language The role of videos in the teaching and learning of content in a foreign language Letizia Cinganotto, Daniela Cuccurullo Abstract This paper stems from the increasing role CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology is playing in the Italian schools, having been introduced by a Reform Law (Decrees 88/89 dated 2010) in the upper secondary school curricula. The added value of CLIL to the quality of our curricula has been pointed out by the European Commission in different reports and official documents. This methodology is becoming more and more popular all over Europe.

A Different History Context Bhatt is an Indian born in Pune, a metropolis (mega city) in the west of India. At 12, her family moved to the USA where she had to learn English from scratch. She has talked about her identity struggle with Gujarati (an Indian language) representing the ‘deepest layer of her identity’, but English representing her daily life and work. Themes There are a couple of themes that would enable you to link this poem to others in your selection.

Nuts and Bolts 1. The Lecture Lectures are a common teaching strategy in universities. However, to reduce the risk of encouraging students to adopt a reproduction approach to their learning we need to move beyond a merely transmission model of teaching. To encourage higher levels of thinking and reasoning lectures need to be designed to encourage students to utilise and build on their existing understanding and transform what they hear into their own ways of knowing and thinking. This site offers strategies to do so. Resources Why Lecture?

CIE Lit Poems 2013 Revision I said that one of the things I most liked about Brewster’s poem “Where I Come From” was its simplicity: “It’s a beautiful example of a poet doing exactly what a poet should do: realising something quite profound, and sharing that idea with us in a beautiful, accessible, thought-provoking way.” That’s what the best poetry is to me. It doesn’t have to be simple (though simple is beautiful: read Wendy Cope), and it doesn’t necessarily have to be immediately accessible (“immediate accessibility” isn’t a criteria for the lovers of the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins or Shakespeare), but for the more complex poems, there has to be that chink of approachability, that glimmer of light, that is the opening for you to “get into” the text.
