Or on a path that seems to go nowhere. When I was in high school, I remember thinking that I had to pick a career at which I would be happy for the next 50 or so years of my life. You can’t know. I spent a year substitute teaching in an effort to see if I wanted to become a public school teacher. You can’t figure out the whole future. Remember, you don’t know what’s coming next. Try to be comfortable with discomfort. Sometimes life is uncomfortable. Life is uncertain. Stuff happens. Overcome distractions. You’re not getting younger. Ask yourself questions. Take some time for yourself. Volunteer or shadow someone. If there is a job or hobby you are interested in — from grooming dogs to being a zookeeper — volunteer or job shadow and see if it’s an occupation you really want to do. Save up. Answer the door. Opportunity may be knocking but if you don’t answer the door, how can you take advantage of it?

How a Small Business Becomes a Big Business | My Venture Pad The New York Times Your The Boss Blog had a post How a Small Business Becomes a Big Business There are many reasons why businesses grow and fail. My insights from the blog are: Scalability & ReplicabilityGrowing through a series successful incremental stepsTaking a mulitgenerational point of view that allows a 40 plus year business plan There is more to growing a business than "the numbers and customer service" and I wish to reframe things a bit. For many entrepreneurs, 10% annual compounded growth would be a big yawn. Customer Service in today's environment is neutral and many businesses look at customer service as fixing problems. A small business becomes a big business through avoiding small thinking and developing Scalability and Replicability into their business. I believe a large component of their success… they are a family business. Family Businesses tend to look very long term because a family is long term, transitioning from one generation to the next.
