How to Work From Home and Make $25 an Hour as a Transcriptionist Looking for a flexible job that allows you to work from home, requires little to no prior experience, and doesn’t involve making sales calls? Yes, this kind of work exists: You could become a transcriptionist. This job gives you the freedom to set your own hours and, in many cases, work as much or as little as you want each week. While transcription jobs are usually broken into general, medical and legal categories, the latter two will usually require prior schooling and/or work experience. If you’re a beginner, you’ll want to start by looking into general transcription — so that’s what I’m going to focus on. Lisa Mills, blogger at Work at Home Mom Revolution and author of Jump Start Your General Transcription Career: The Fast & Easy Way to Get Started, started transcribing shortly after separating from her husband. “l needed to find a job quickly, and I wanted to be at home with my children, so transcription seemed like a natural fit,” she says. How I Saved $1,000 And Stopped Living Paycheck to Paycheck I know… I know… For a lot of our readers, the thought of saving money when you’re living paycheck to paycheck is a joke. It’s not that working people don’t want to save; it’s just that too many of us are struggling with trying to pay the rent and put gas in the car. By the time the month is over, there’s nothing left to save. So I’m not going to lecture anyone on the importance of saving, but let me share some tips on how I broke the “paycheck to paycheck” cycle… Month 1 Open an online savings or checking account and deposit $5. There are a bunch of great online banks, but one of my favorites is Aspiration because it offers an interest rate that is around 100x what a normal bank offers, plus there are no monthly fees. I know it doesn’t seem worth it to start small, but getting started is an extremely important first step! Month 2 This month I want you to save $15 in your new savings account. An easy way to earn $15 is with Paribus. You don’t have to do anything! Need a different idea? Month 3

Freelance Writing Jobs: How to Find Your First As many of you know, I am an advocate of making money online through freelance writing. As far as I am concerned, the barriers of entry are relatively low and the opportunities are numerous. Plenty of Leaving Work Behind readers have contacted me asking how to find freelance writing jobs. Some people don’t know where to look, what to look for, how to apply for jobs, and so on. And this comes as no surprise — taking those first few steps can be rather intimidating. I say that from personal experience. Freelance Writing Jobs: Don’t Be Afraid To Start Small Whilst you can make upwards of $100 per hour doing freelance writing jobs, there is absolutely nothing wrong with starting at a lower level. My hourly rate was $20 when I started. My equivalent hourly rate at the moment is well under $100 per hour, but I have no problem with that. The fact is, you can’t walk straight into $100 per hour jobs as a beginner freelance writer. Besides, there are other benefits to starting out modestly:

A Guide to Patenting Software: Getting Started One of the things that makes protecting computer related inventions tricky is that first you have to define the invention, and defining the invention is not something that is altogether easy when the invention is a computer process or relates to software. Sure, it is easy enough to define a list of desired functionality, and if you have some computer programming skills it is easy enough (after investing the requisite time) to write the code that will enable the functionality, but that which can be protected via patent lies somewhere between the desired functionality and the code, making the defining of the invention rather elusive for some, particularly those who are new to the patent arena. Further complicating the matter is the reality that over the last several years the law of patent eligibility in the United States has been in flux. It did become largely settled with respect to software and business methods thanks to Bilski v. But when do you have a patent eligible invention?

How to Paint with Watercolors on Regular Canvas — Art is Fun If you want to paint with watercolors on a canvas that would normally be used for oils or acrylics, then you will need to prep it first. As is, the watercolors would just slide off the canvas because the surface isn't absorbent enough, so you need to coat the canvas with a product such as Golden Absorbent Ground (this links to Blick Art Materials, and if you make a purchase I get a small commission that helps support this site). Here's how to do it: Gesso your canvas first as normal. Golden Absorbent Ground will give the canvas a paper-like quality that watercolors can easily stick to. I've provided links below to the relevant products so that you can easily find them on Blick Art Materials, my favorite online art supplier. When the painting when is finished, seal it with a spray varnish to make the painting waterproof. You can then hang the painting as-is or frame it under glass.

Petoskey Lace Cowl: Free Crochet Pattern | The Unraveled Mitten The Petoskey Lace Cowl was inspired by a knit cowl I seen a few years ago on Pinterest. This project kind of started off emulating that cowl but evolved into this pretty, feminine and romantic cowl instead. It uses less than a ball of Lion Brand Scarfie and 6.5 mm hook and works up pretty quickly with just 16 rounds. It seams like when ever I make a cowl it is started from the bottom up, but this one you start at the top so the lace lays the right way at the bottom. I added some increases before the lace section so it would flare out a little bit because when I made it straight down, the lacy stitches just got lost in the rest of the cowl and I wanted it to stand out. If you’re from Michigan you probably know just where I got the name for this cowl! It is also the name of a historic town along Lake Michigan in my state that is filled with cute little Victorian houses and I feel like this cowl fits right in with that aesthetic. ** This post contains affiliate links.
