? At Raven, we experiment a lot. We consider our projects as our own version of skunkworks. Sometimes the experiments are driven by mere curiosity, while others are meant to see how far we can push the boundaries of a service. All of our experiments have one common element, problem solving. When we first created the kl.am URL shortener, we did it to solve a problem. At the time, there wasn’t an SEO friendly shortener that supported campaign variables (now referenced as tracking tags by Google). Campaign variables are great, because you can assign a source, medium, and name, like Twitter and/or Social Media Campaign. So campaign variables is the main reason we built kl.am, period. Several months after we debuted an SEO friendly URL shortener that supported campaign variables, many existing and new shorteners added them to their service. With the mass support of campaign variables, it wasn’t necessary for us to keep kl.am running. Spammers use of kl.am became epic.

The 35 Best iPhone Apps Of The Year (So Far) This guest post was written by Alex Ahlund, founder of AppVee. We are just past of a year since the App Store launched and there are more than 60,000 applications released for the iPhone and iPod Touch. When we wrote our 2008 year-end app wrap-up, we had just surpassed the 10,000 app milestone. Unfortunately, the process is entirely overwhelming for the average iPhone user. There are new third party services and tools coming onto the scene to help show how to best navigate the App Store. The following is a round-up of our top picks so far this year: Most practical 1. A fantastic alternative to Pandora, which carries a larger catalog and offers Premium accounts that offers something we’ve always loathed about Pandora – unlimited song skips. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. 16. 17.

Flickr's best Photographers Pet dog cooked, eaten A man who cooked his pet dog in a backyard barbecue cannot be prosecuted because it was killed humanely, says the SPCA. South Auckland man Paea Taufa was found roasting his pitbull terrier-cross in an umu pit at his home in Mangere, the Sunday News reported. The dog had been skinned and gutted and was partially charred when SPCA inspectors arrived. Mr Taufa said he had been surprised when inspectors arrived because dog was a delicacy in Tonga . "I didn't know I couldn't cook the dog. He had decided to cook the dog because it was too skinny and had become unmanageable. Under the Animal Welfare Act it is legal to kill a dog in New Zealand if the animal is slaughtered swiftly and painlessly. However, SPCA Auckland chief executive Garth Halliday said Mr Taufa's actions were unacceptable. "Although we appreciate the difference of cultures that exist in a place like New Zealand, the SPCA finds this sort of treatment of any animal to be totally unacceptable," he said.
