Marketing for Libraries What do people want and need from a library? What services can your library provide? How can services be connected with the needs of current and potential library users? Marketing is much more than creating attractive displays and updating your Facebook page, it's about meeting the needs of individuals and groups. If library users aren't aware of your resources and services, they're unlikely to visit your physical or virtual library. Marketing is about understanding the needs and interests of current and potential users, reaching those individuals with quality resources and services, and evaluating the experience so adjustments can be made to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and appeal. Using Technology to Enhance a Library as Place -- Breeding, Marshall [Library Technology Guides] Abstract: Technology can play an important role in the ways that libraries make use of their physical spaces. I have seen some great examples of the ways technology can add to the vitality of a library's facilities, both in conspicuous and dazzling ways and with more subtle approaches. When I visit a library, I'm always interested to learn about how the librarians there use technology, both behind the scenes in the ways that they manage their operations or build collections and in their public spaces to enhance their patrons' experiences. I devote a lot of energy to researching, writing, and thinking about how librarians can use technology to improve the web experiences they offer their patrons. Technology also can play an important role in the ways that libraries make use of their physical spaces. Libraries today have to seek out strategies that promote stronger engagement with their users. It's exciting to visit libraries that have a strong spirit of engagement with their patrons.

The 10 Web 2.0 Tools/Apps I Use Most As A Teacher, Learner & Leader Awhile back Larry Ferlazzo wrote about the Web 2.0/Social Media tools that he uses every day. I read Larry’s blog all the time, but what struck me about this post was not the tools that he listed as being useful to him, (even though I use many of them myself), but rather the actual process of identifying the technology he uses each and every day. Not that this is hard work, mind you, it’s just that technology is such a ubiquitous part of my life; the tools/toys I use most often don’t feel like “tools” at all – rather they are almost an extension of who I am: a part of my daily routine so “normal” that I don’t think twice about the important role they play. Of course I start my day with a cup of coffee, my google reader and a personalized web curation app. Doesn’t everyone? And that’s what’s so brilliant about Larry’s post. #1 & #2 Google Reader + Feeddler Pro: In Larry’s post, he says that “RSS is truly a magical service” and he is so right! #5 Twitter: #9 Instagram: Bonus!
