The 9 Epiphanies That Shifted My Perspective Forever - Global One TV By David Over the years I’ve learned dozens of little tricks and insights for making life more fulfilling. They’ve added up to a significant improvement in the ease and quality of my day-to-day life. But the major breakthroughs have come from a handful of insights that completely rocked my world and redefined reality forever. The world now seems to be a completely different one than the one I lived in about ten years ago, when I started looking into the mechanics of quality of life. Maybe you’ve had some of the same insights. 1. The first time I heard somebody say that, I didn’t like the sound of it one bit. I see quite clearly now that life is nothing but passing experiences, and my thoughts are just one more category of things I experience. If you can observe your thoughts just like you can observe other objects, who’sdoing the observing? 2. Of course! 3. 4. 5. Yikes. 6. This discovery was a complete 180 from my old understanding of emotions. 7. 8. 9.
The World's Best Print Ads, 2011-12 | All the Gold Press Winners from Cannes We're still catching up on the many hundreds of winners from this year's Cannes Lions festival. Today, we look at the top print ads—the Grand Prix and gold winners from the Press Lions contest. It's a varied bunch, offering everything from sly and subtle jokes (Volkswagen) to broad comedy (McDonald's) to poignant messages of loss (Amnesty International) and esoteric exercises in typography (Mercedes-Benz). Most of the executions are intricately art directed, none more so than JWT Shanghai's work for Maxam toothpaste, showing ancient ruins carved into human teeth. The Grand Prix winner, as you already know, was the Benetton work showing the world leaders kissing. There was a fair amount of grousing about that. You May Be Able to Actually Make Yourself Smarter—All It Takes Is Practice I totally agree, but don't think that wikipedia-surfing is a good example, because you search for stuff that you want to know (or maybe easier to understand) while when reading a scrience book f.e. you have to read all the way through the article, even if some parts are harder to understand I tend to agree as well, but I've found that as someone who strives to learn almost to the exclusion of all else in my life, when that learning is severely depressed by any of a variety of factors, I'm encouraged to drink. Maybe dumb people don't 'not care,' but they're just not as capable of learning, and lack to means of acquiring the necessary facilitation to expand their minds. Or, maybe you're right and they don't care. But yes, the desire, the motivation is a key factor in anything.

How to Make Google Chrome Fast Again Have you noticed your usually speedy Google Chrome browser slowing down, or even crashing on you? Unnecessary plugins, extensions, and even browsing data can slow your browser down to a crawl, or make it crash. Here’s how to fix it. In this article, we’ll show you how to disable plugins and extensions and clear browsing data to speed up Chrome and prevent it from crashing on you. Disable Plugins By default, when you install Google Chrome, many unnecessary plugins are installed and enabled. NOTE: You can safely disable every single plugin, but you may want to keep Flash enabled, as a lot of sites use Flash to display menus, show videos, etc. A list of installed plugins displays on the current tab. NOTE: Plugins cannot be deleted or uninstalled, only disabled. Disabled plugins turn gray in the list, and the Disable link for each disabled plugin becomes an Enable link, allowing you to enable the plugin again, if desired. Disable Extensions Clear Browsing Data Clear Your Entire Browsing History
You're the Guinea Pig: Experimenting with Your Sleep and Dreams I have about 30 sleep apps on my iPhone. It's become a hobby, testing them all out. I am a hospice CNA and a full-time nursing student, so sleep is vital, unfortunately I also have pretty bad insomnia. The best apps I have found for good sleep are the TESLA entrainment apps (Tesla is the company, if you search in the app store. They have a gazillion different packages, both paid and free). The DREAM:ON experience I had was very similar to the one described. The SLEEP CYCLE app is really nice. There are other "sleep sounds" type apps that I have downloaded. NIGHTSTAND is another app. Hope this helps!
The Sietch Blog » Watercone – An Ingenious Way To Turn Salt Water Into Fresh Water The Watercone is an ingenious device that can take salty water and turn it into fresh water using only the power of the sun. The nice thing about this device is it is bone simple, uses the sun instead of fossil fuel, and is cheap to make and easy to use. The Watercone is surprisingly a cone, that you place over a pan of salty water (or over a marsh, or any damp ground) leave it out in the sun, water evaporates, the condensation trickles down the side of the cone, at the end of the day you flip it over, remove the cap at the top and drink the water. This device has the potential to really do a lot of good for a lot of people. They claim that on average one Watercone can produce one liter of water per-day. The Watercone website has some really interesting information and I highly recommend checking it out. 1.
100 little things that travel has taught me Travel has been one of my most valuable teachers. Rather than sit in a classroom and learn about the world through a someone else’s eyes, I did it through adventures and misadventures, tears and laughter. I know I still have so much to discover, but here are some lessons that sometimes I had to learn the hard way. Some of them I already kinda knew, some I are silly, some are serious, some are obvious, and some are embarrassing. Maybe this collection will help open up new doors in your own life and own travels, and although we will all learn our own lessons, I hope maybe I will help someone avoid some of my mistakes (example: #14). Happy travels! 1. 21. 28. 43. 60. 80. 95. Google Chrome Extension for Tableau Server - The Information Lab So there’s no hiding the fact that I love Tableau Server. The simplicity alone of installing it, maintaining it and using it as both a portal for visualisations and a method to easily disseminate data throughout the organisation makes Tableau Server the perfect best friend of Tableau Desktop and of any budding analyst. With the announcement of Tableau version 8 came the word ‘ubiquitous’. Tableau would be available on any and every platform, whether you’re working on an Ultrabook or a Chromebook, you would be able to analyse data with just a few clicks of the mouse. Hearing Chris Stolte talk about those two concepts at the last Tableau Conference, simplicity and ubiquity, got me thinking about how I could make my favourite platform even easier to access on the ubiquitous browser that is Google Chrome. What exactly is this Google Chrome Extension for Tableau Server? It’s a light-weight tool which puts your Tableau visualisations right at your fingertips. Show me!
The Stupid Things You Do in the Kitchen (and How to Fix Them) Love cooking or hate it, much of your time in the kitchen is likely wasted by easily correctable mistakes you probably don't even know you're making. You waste time prepping ingredients, use your knives incorrectly, mix and match the wrong utensils, and throw out food that's still good—and those are just a few of the stupid things you do in the kitchen. Here's how to fix them. P Stupid Thing #1: You Spend Too Much Time Prepping IngredientsP Few people enjoy the tedium of prepping ingredients. Say you're cutting a bunch of carrots into sticks; it doesn't make sense to trim, peel, and slice each one individually. It also helps to use two bowls—one for scraps and one for cleaning—so you don't make a mess during the preparation process. These are all great ways to save you time and keep you organized, but a few common ingredients have tricks all their own. Stupid Thing #2: You Use Your Knives WrongP The easiest issue to correct is a dull blade, and it's one of the most important.

Yes, I could actually recite the entire 7 chapters to anyone willing to listen. Why did I do this? Determined to be the first student to ace his test, I memorized all 7 chapters. If you’re looking for a way to increase the capacity of your memory or pass a test, you don’t need to memorize 23,000 words. First, use a pencil or word processor (I prefer the latter because it’s faster) to type, in complete sentences, any fact you think might appear on the test. After a study session, take a quick nap. I eventually became so good at this technique that I could complete all my studying for any information heavy mid-term or final exam in less than 6 hours. I’m not saying you should ignore your classes until the last minute (please don’t — I rarely studied at the last minute myself), but it’s good to know there is a way to save yourself if you do. Does it Really Work? My best advice is to try it for yourself. Apr
Testing Out Bodymetrics, The Startup That Wants To Be A Denim Shoppers Best Friend [TCTV] Few industries with mainstream visibility and appeal have remained as unplugged from serious tech disruption as apparel and fashion. Of course, the realm of shopping has had major shifts, as has the marketing of clothing from the runway to the mall clothing rack. But the way that clothes are actually made has remained surprisingly unchanged in many ways. When it comes to the incredibly popular category of blue jeans, for example, clothing samples are typically designed to the proportions of a single human “fit model.” Then, versions of that design are replicated in smaller and larger sizes to be sold to the masses. Different brands are known for having different shapes, but with the ever-increasing variety available in the premium denim category alone, it can be pretty daunting to know where to start. A Bodymetrics scanner A company called Bodymetrics is keen to bring a bit more personalization to this whole process.
