Psychological Marketing Business Tactics: Big And Small Business Ideas -... Mike Maples: "You Have to Be Willing to Throw it all away" [Video] If you are a entrepreneur– especially a first time entrepreneur or an entrepreneur outside of Silicon Valley– you need to stop what you are doing and watch this video. Yes, it is 45 minutes long. But it’s worth it. Last night at a Founder Institute event , super angel Mike Maples gave a talk about what he calls “pivots” and “thunder lizards.” Thunder lizards are startups born from atomic eggs that “emerge with attitude” want to disrupt and chew up their competition– both new world and old. They are big, chaotic, relentless and when successful, become huge companies. This isn’t about product iteration– the pivot has to do with business model. To some corners of the business world that may seem obvious, but in today’s build-a-product-throw-it-out-there-and-flip-it startup culture it is actually contrarian. I keep hearing from other super angels out raising funds that LPs are ga-ga over Maples and until this talk I wasn’t sure why.

7 Super Snacks That Heal If some doctors had their way today, Americans would be more medicated than industrial feedlot cattle. But what most people don’t realize is that the first line of defense against stress, fatigue, depression, and so many other maladies is found in supermarket aisles, not in the drug store. Research shows that the vitamins, minerals, and active compounds specific to certain fruits, vegetables, and even chocolate and red wine have an immediate and lasting impact on your mood, your health, your fitness — even your sex life. Whether you have a big presentation at work, or the need to burn a few hundred extra calories a day (and who doesn’t want to do that?), why not put food to work for you? 1. Salesforce Debuts The New Radian6-Powered Social Marketing And Monitoring... Radian6, which was acquired by Salesforce for $326 million earlier this year, has offered some of the world’s largest brands a web-based social media monitoring platform. Brands like Dell, GE, Southwest Airlines, Kodak and UPS use the service to monitor, analyze and engage in ‘hundreds of millions’ of social media conversations. But until now, Salesforce has not integrated Radian6 into its suite of cloud-based products. Today, the CRM giant is unveiling the new Radian6-powered social marketing and monitoring cloud. Salesforce says the social marketing cloud extends the social enterprise to marketing with new features in social monitoring, insights, engagement, workflow and websites. Radian6 will continue to offer a powerful social media monitoring client that allows companies to parse and manage large volumes of social media conversations from millions of sources. But Salesforce is taking it a step further with its Social Insights product.

10 Search Engines to Explore the Invisible Web It’s not Spiderman’s latest web slinging tool but something that’s more real world. The Invisible Web (or The Deep Web) refers to the part of the Internet that’s not indexed by the search engines. Most of us think that that search powerhouses like Google and Bing are like the Great Oracle — they see everything. And, there are some places where a spider cannot enter. How Do Search Engines Work? Take library databases which need a password for access. Search engine technology has progressed by leaps and bounds. It’s not that you can’t access the invisible web at all. 1. Press Releases and SEO How much do you know about press releases? Here’s a little history lesson for you: back in the day, press releases were sent to journalists who would (hopefully!) read them and then decide whether or not to tell the rest of the world. But today – thanks to the internet – reporters are no longer the gatekeepers. Instead, you can distribute a press release through an online newswire service and it can be re-posted on various news websites. And anyone – whether it’s a partner, competitor or customer – can find and read your great news from different online sources. You might be wondering what happened to those journalists … a 2010 PRWeek survey found that 95 percent of reporters conduct online research for a story; even more reason to distribute your releases online! That’s pretty awesome, right? So the challenge is how to increase the chances of your releases appearing in search engine results. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. © 2011 – 2012, VR Marketing Blog.
