Alders Photography Blog » Los Angeles Wedding Photography Liane and Robert are some of my dear friends. So you can imagine my joy when they told me they were engaged! And you can imagine my elation when they told me they were going back to Liane’s home state of Hawaii for the wedding! And I’m sure you can imagine my heartbreak when they told me their date…because I was already booked. Liane and Robert chose the Queen Emma Summer Palace to wed at, harkening back to Hawaii’s unique history and culture. And despite the downpour that day, Melanie did an absolutely fabulous job with the photos! I especially loved the details about Liane’s dress. Details aside, I love Liane and Robert’s love. Wedding Graduates: Ellie & Mark « A Practical Wedding I’m beyond overjoyed to finally (finally!) bring you Ellie’s wedding graduate post. Ellie writes at Wedding For Two and has been stressing on Twitter for months about not having quite the right thing to say, and about how she didn’t feel married after her wedding, and about how life has been hard lately, and that’s tough as a newlywed. I thought I knew what getting married and having a wedding was all about. Why do I say that? As a side note: you should also know that it’s really okay if you don’t spend a whole lot of time with your husband on your wedding day – you get the rest of your lives. The most important things about our wedding, to me, turned out to be things like the last few moments with my parents and my sister right before we walked down the aisle, and the way that I felt as I walked past everyone I loved and they were all smiling at me like crazy. I could tell you all about how the details aren’t really that important, but the funny thing is – they are.

Too many messages. Too much noise. Too much guilt… The world sends me tweets, direct messages, texts, chats with me on skype, sends me Facebook emails (!) Amen, Swiss Miss. As a recent Boston Globe piece points out, it takes two to tango: A new technology does not act alone, after all, but in concert with our ambitions for it. We’ll interrupt dinner to send a “quick email” on our phones, check into Foursquare as we settle in for a beer at the local bar, or tweet a picture of a memorable experience as it’s happening. It’s time to take responsibility for our communications. Whenever someone sends us a message, we always have a choice. Step 1: Define your rules of engagement. Every message is not created equal. Anything can be a rule: They can be time-based, situation-based, contact-based. Every message is not created equal. What’s Your Approach?

Now, for your drooling pleasure, is the full deal on this colorful, to-die-for wedding! -Becca The offbeat bride: Wanjiru, Doctor (and Tribe member) Her offbeat partner: Ricky, Administration Location & date of wedding: Emoyeni, Johannesburg, South Africa — October 10, 2010 What made our wedding offbeat: I refused to wear a veil let alone have hair on my head. I mish-mashed ideas from everywhere. I refused to choose a color theme. I compiled my playlist. We had an eight course cocktail dinner followed by a five course dessert. We had a teensy decor budget and decided to bring in my small tribe of stuffed toys to help out on the day. My mom also volunteered her suncatchers for the wedding (she sells them at fleamarkets and the like) and they were strung along the pathways bringing color and sound and helped direct people to the ceremony. Roses were banned from the day. wohoo!

Michael and I gave our respective teams their pre-game pep talks and we did the play by play for our friends and family, many of whom had never seen roller derby before. And, of course, we rolled into our reception in style — on roller skates! As for the reception, fun was the name of the game. Our officiant wore a referee jersey.
