Working Medium Format Camera Created with Lego Blocks Fernando Ramírez Martínez (snipfer on Flickr) created this awesomely geeky medium format camera using Lego pieces. We started sorting bricks out and after a couple of afternoons working on the camera obscura we managed to get some shots out of the thing. It was built using Lego pieces, duct tape, black cardboard and some glue. The camera shoots 6×6 and the “lens” sports a focal length of 150mm with an aperture of 1:300. The take-up spool on the right is moved by hand through the gears on top, the unexposed film spool on the left (not loaded on this picture) moves slowly opposing the white clutched gear. Detail of the film advance mechanism. Without anything more precise than a centimeter ruler we estimated the pinhole’s diameter as 0.5mm. Vodka Infused Gummi Bears "Drunken Gummies" Hack | The Daily Hack On Thursday, we all learned how to turn our cheap Brita filtered vodka into a sweet Skittles infused vodka liqueur. Well today, instead of infusing the candy into the vodka, we're going to learn how to infuse the vodka into the candy. That's right, we're going to make Drunken Gummies! To check out the whole hack click here. handmade_gifts: Skittles Vodka Due to the popularity of the Infamous Skittles Vodka, I have decided to photograph my experiences making it. I decided to do a set of five different bottles, one for each Skittle color. I've heard of people mixing all colors in one, but I like the "rainbow" effect of five separate ones. I purchased five 8.5 oz. "swing-top" blue glass bottles at The Container Store. Come to find out, the boyfriend wants to give some more friends the gift of candy-flavored booze, so I hopped online and bought some 10 oz. glass bottles from SpecialtyBottle.com. I used an online calculator to figure out how much vodka I would need to fill ten 10 oz. bottles and five 8.5 oz. bottles, then bought the appropriate amount of Smirnoff. I bought two giant-sized Skittles bags at Walmart. I knew that once the Skittles started dissolving they would leave behind some residue. Then all there was left was to add the Skittles. After two full days and quite a bit of shaking, the Skittles were 97% dissolved.
cold-brewed iced coffee Since I began working from home, I have no doubt I have saved a ton of money by not buying those yogurt-granola cups and salad bar lunches everyday. What I haven’t saved even a penny on, however, is my iced coffee habit. If anything, it’s gotten worse. Or better, depending on how you look at it. The first month, I spent a lot of time at Starbucks, yet not because I am addicted to their coffee, but the other unspoken the Opiate of the Freelancing Class: Free wireless. But after a few weeks, the loud and generally awful music (greatly compensated for by playing Hallelujah often, however, they’d play the John Cale version and that’s the wrong one and yes, I have digressed this far) and the fact that even at 9 a.m., the bathrooms smelled like a barn. Enter my newly-purchased wireless card, and suddenly I have freedom to work at wonderful coffee shops with from Joe to 9th Street to Grumpy to you-name-it, I’ve been to them all.
