Future Of Emerging Technology: An Interactive Infographic Maps The Can speculation about the future of technology serve as a measuring stick for what we create today? That’s the idea behind Envisioning Technology's massive infographic (PDF), which maps the future of emerging technologies on a loose timeline between now and 2040. Click to enlarge. On it you’ll find predictions about everything from artificial intelligence and robotics to geoengineering and energy. Mouse over the entries for blurbs describing them and links to more information; you won’t find much more than a Wikipedia page explanation, but that’s plenty helpful for the uninitiated.

Remote Desktop Connection to a Raspberry Pi I’ve had a Raspberry Pi since May 2012, when the first wave arrived. 40+ Visualization Tools for dashboards and social business There is so much data that it is an incredible task to actually comprehend it. In order to make the data actionable we need to really focus on tools to clarify what we are looking at. We need to think about the process of tuning into a specific channelof segmenting dataof communicating the significance of that dataof doing SOMETHING with the data To that end I’ve collected another list of tools that specifically help with visualizing different types of information. Keep in mind that some of these tools just need ‘some play time’ where you trial and test different types of data until they begin to make sense to you, your audience, and your business.

'Tantalizing' hints of room-temperature superconductivity Simple graphite, if doped with distilled water, may be able to act as a superconductor at room temperature. Researchers in Germany have claimed a breakthrough: a material that can act as a superconductor — transmit electricity with zero resistance — at room temperature and above. Superconductors offer huge potential energy savings, but until now have worked only at temperatures of lower than about -110 °C. Now, Pablo Esquinazi and his colleagues at the University of Leipzig report that flakes of humble graphite soaked in water seem to continue superconducting at temperatures of greater than 100 °C1. Even Esquinazi admits that the claim “sounds like science fiction”, but the work has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Advanced Materials, and other physicists contacted by Nature say that the results, although tentative, merit further scrutiny.

New IBM Microscope Technique Has Resolution 100 Times Smaller Than An Atom Different bond lengths in molecules have conventionally been drawn for years (left) but IBM scientists now have measured those lengths precisely with a microscope (right). Here’s a challenge: envision a trillionth of something. You might think of one penny compared to 10 billion dollars. Or how in travelling one meter, the Earth completes around a trillionth of its annual journey. Now you can add one more thing to the list, thanks to researchers in Zurich: a picometer, or a trillionth of a meter, is around the smallest distance that humans can resolve with a microscope. Building on their impressive microscopy work over the last few years, a team from IBM has refined their method to precisely measure the structural details of a single molecule.

How to Charge Any USB Device with AA Batteries – Make Your Own Battery Pack!!! « Greg Dolley’s Weblog Posted by gregd1024 on December 23, 2007 I recently had this weird idea to take apart a USB cable, solder the +VCD and ground wires to a “AA” battery holder, slap in some batteries, and see if the contraption would power/charge my cell phone.
