Getting started with IMAP for Gmail - Gmail Help - (Current Sess POP and IMAP is what allows you to download messages from Gmail's servers onto your computer so you can access your mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird, even when you aren't connected to the Internet. POP and IMAP access are free for all Gmail users. If you're trying to decide between using POP and IMAP, we encourage you to use IMAP. Unlike POP, IMAP offers two-way communication between your web Gmail and your email client. This means when you log in to Gmail using a web browser, actions you perform on email clients and mobile devices (ex: putting mail in a 'work' folder) will instantly and automatically appear in Gmail (ex: it will already have a 'work' label on that email the next time you sign in). IMAP also provides a better method to access your mail from multiple devices. Finally, IMAP offers a more stable experience overall. Some clients may behave in unexpected ways when you set up automatic email replies. iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Google Reader Google Mail Maps FREE Online Rhyming Dictionary Export Google Personalized Homepage Feeds to OPML - (Current Ses Update on 2/1/2010: iGoogle no longer supports inline gadgets, which includes this module. The alternate OPML export method described by Google Operating System still works however. The recently released Google Reader homepage module makes it even easier to keep track of feeds on the Google Personalized Homepage. Unlike the built-in feed handling of the homepage, it keeps track of read state, can display item contents inline (in a floating bubble) and takes up much less room. However, if you've been using the homepage's feed modules, moving the feeds to Reader is a tedious process, since the site does not provide an export functionality. I've created a simple inline module that adds an OPML export feature to the hompage. Once you've gone through the module adding process (and allowed inlining), simply click the "Export OPML" button. This module is not endorsed by Google, and is not guaranteed to always work (especially on non-US Google domains).

If the Google Phone Walked Into a Bar... - Android - Gizmodo Scholar Fridge Acquired by Google to Build Groups in Google+ - Liz Gannes - Social Fridge, a group social networking site, was acquired by Google last night, co-founder Austin Chang tells AllThingsD. It’s an interesting move for Google+, whose signature feature is its Circles, which are managed by each user rather than as collaborative groups. New York-based Fridge, which offered a simple and pretty group communication tool with photo-sharing and event-planning features, had raised some curiosity when it told members last week via email that it was shutting down its product. “Fridge will be shutting down but the core tenets will stay on in Google+,” Chang said today. Groups for Google+ have actually been a part of the plan for a while, said a person familiar with Google’s product development. Fridge had raised $800,000 from angel investors such as Mitch Kapor, Naval Ravikant, Keith Rabois, Jim Young, Jeremy Stoppelman, Jameson Hsu, Geoff Ralston, Jason Sander and Joshua Schachter.
