This is a great little exercise that I got from Story Shots and I tried it on some of my favorite action scenes like the one from Avatar the Last Airbender Book 1 where Katara fights Water Master Paku. I learned quite a bit from this. And I believe I will be doing more exercises like these. ^_^ I made these for examples of animation and illustration styles I can do and want to implement for new projects. And a Test video for the latter style Continue Reading Another personal project I am happy to have a version I can show now. A story about a Sugar glider who is too fat to fly. Continue Reading Here is a personal project I had in mind that I ultimately would like to make into an animated short. Continue Reading Here’s another exercise that taught me a lot. Also I slowed down quite a bit doing these boards, (averaging roughly 15 – 20 panels a day) because I really had to study this sequence heavily. Anyway here are the boards from that exercise, Feedback is encouraged! Continue Reading

CRITERIA FOR THIS LIST:This is not a list of 'iconic' SFX shots, such as the opening shot in Star Wars or the final shot in Back To The Future, etc. There are many fantastic SFX shots in cinema history that are artistically 'awesome' without qualifying here. For the purposes of this list, a shot has to be either a) exceptionally convincing, b) ground-breaking or c) an exemplary execution of an oft-used technique. A note about pagination (why the entries on this list are divided this way) 50: Alien: Resurrection (1997) - Ripley clone matures Jean-Pierre Jeunet's quirky fourth entry to the Alien series boasts many eccentric touches worthy of mention, including an elegant solution for the astronaut who even has to carry his whiskey freeze-dried, as well as the first CGI examples of H.R. 49: Just Imagine (1930) - Descent to New York penthouse 48: The Day After Tomorrow (2004) - Manhattan floods. 47: Saving Private Ryan (1998) - Bullets in the water. 43: Dune (1984) - Worm attack. Freeze Frame
xpatriate Englishman Eadweard Muybridge (1830–1904), a brilliant and eccentric photographer, gained worldwide fame photographing animal and human movement imperceptible to the human eye. Hired by railroad baron Leland Stanford in 1872, Muybridge used photography to prove that there was a moment in a horse’s gallop when all four hooves were off the ground at once. He spent much of his later career at the University of Pennsylvania, producing thousands of images that capture progressive movements within fractions of a second. Freeze Frame explores the famous photographs of animal and human locomotion that Muybridge made at the University of Pennsylvania between 1884 and 1887. For 100 years, historians considered these photographs to be scientific studies of the body in motion.
