Learner Drivers To Take Motorway Lessons | Stable Blog. For the first time, learner drivers will be allowed to take motorway lessons before they have passed their tests. They will still be under the supervision of a driving instructor. Motorway lessons, according to the Department for Transport (DfT), will allow Britain’s roads to become safer than ever. Even though the DfT pride themselves on the safety of British roads, they want to make them even safer by allowing learner drivers to join motorways as part of their lessons. RAC road safety spokesman Pete Williams said: “We welcome the news that learner drivers will be allowed to take lessons on the motorway under the supervision of an approved driving instructor in a dual-controlled car, something that motorists we surveyed were overwhelmingly supportive of.”
Williams continued: “While motorways are statistically our safest roads, it can be daunting using them for the first time after passing the driving test.
