Home Remodeling for People with Disabilities

But for individuals and veterans living with disabilities, or seniors aging in place, the fact that much of the world outside is not built to accommodate their needs magnifies the value of a comfortable home. It’s vital they and their loved ones have access to the best resources about how to make their homes livable and enjoyable. Unfortunately, without access to the right resources, creating a comfortable home can be an expensive task. I’ve spent more than seven years working in the construction, home improvement, and health and safety fields, and created this resource to cover essential information for disability home remodeling. This guide will identify legal and financial resources available to citizens, seniors, and veterans, offer tips to hire the right home remodeler, and suggest modifications throughout the home to make the space as accommodating as possible.

The U.S. Accessibility for the Disabled - Introduction. We are all physically disabled (1) at some time in our lives.

Accessibility for the Disabled - Introduction

A child, a person with a broken leg, a parent with a pram, an elderly person, etc. are all disabled in one way or another. Those who remain healthy and able-bodied all their lives are few. As far as the built-up environment is concerned, it is important that it should be barrier-free and adapted to fulfill the needs of all people equally. As a matter of fact, the needs of the disabled coincide with the needs of the majority, and all people are at ease with them. As such, planning for the majority implies planning for people with varying abilities and disabilities.

This publication is an attempt to provide for the first time in Lebanon a design manual on accessibility for the disabled. The manual does not cover all the requirements of disabled people in detail. The social aim of this study is to integrate disabled people into society in order for them to take an active part in society and lead a normal life. Property developer Cathedral Group enlisted a host of UK designers, including FAT, dRMM, Make Architects and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, to come up with designs for the bespoke structures in a bid to raise £100,000 for disabled children's charity KIDS. Referencing a dolls' house that British architect Edwin Lutyens exhibited in 1922, the brief asked each team to present a unique design on a 750-millimetre square plinth, which could then be sold at auction. FAT worked with artist Grayson Perry on its entry, which takes the iconic form of Erno Goldfinger's Trellick Tower building and adds an assortment of colourful openings. London studio Guy Hollaway Architects based its design on a jack-in-a-box toy, creating a simple house with an inflatable pavilion concealed inside.
