Honey, a startup whose internet tool tells online shoppers whether there is an eligible coupon for their purchase, has held talks to raise somewhere around $100 million in new investment money, according to multiple sources. Honey co-founder Ryan Hudson confirmed the talks to Recode in February, but at the time said his company had discontinued the discussions to focus on new product development.

But after another inquiry last week, Hudson confirmed that the talks had restarted. “Something came inbound that we’re seriously considering but not closed so nothing to announce yet,” he wrote in an email. Honey, based in Los Angeles, was founded in 2012 and makes technology that scours the web for available digital coupons and sales. Hudson said in February that Honey was basically running at “cash-flow neutral” and would only raise money if the terms were too good to pass up. What is a Mobile Network Operator (MNO)? - Definition from Techopedia. Smartphone. A smartphone, or smart phone, is a mobile phone with more advanced computing capability and connectivity than basic feature phones.[1][2][3] Early smartphones typically combined the features of a mobile phone with those of another popular consumer device, such as a personal digital assistant (PDA), a media player, a digital camera, or a GPS navigation unit.

Modern smartphones include all of those features plus the features of a touchscreen computer, including web browsing, Wi-Fi, and 3rd-party apps. History[edit] Early years[edit] Devices that combined telephony and computing were first conceptualized in 1973, and were offered for sale beginning in 1993. The term "smartphone" first appeared in 1997, when Ericsson described its GS 88 "Penelope" concept as a Smart Phone.[5][6][7][8][9] Forerunners[edit] The first mobile phone to incorporate PDA features was an IBM prototype developed in 1992 and demonstrated that year at the COMDEX computer industry trade show.

Verizon Said to Announce $4.8 Billion Yahoo Takeover Monday. On Monday, Yahoo! Inc.’s years-long fight to survive as a standalone company will draw to a close. Verizon Communications Inc. will announce plans to buy Yahoo’s core assets for a bit more than $4.8 billion before the market opens, said two people with direct knowledge of the situation who asked not to be identified because the information isn’t public. The deal includes Yahoo real estate assets, while some intellectual property is to be sold separately, the people said. Yahoo will be left with its stakes in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and Yahoo Japan Corp., with a combined market value of about $40 billion. A transaction stands to finally seal the fate of web pioneer Yahoo after months of speculation and pressure from investors including Starboard Value LP.

Verizon spokesman Bob Varettoni and Yahoo spokeswoman Rebecca Neufeld declined to comment. ‘Strategy Shift’ “The deal speaks to a clear strategy shift at Verizon,” Craig Moffett, an analyst with MoffettNathanson, said Sunday.
