Out spills rude language and harsh criticisms, anger, hatred, even threats. Or people explore the dark underworld of the internet, places of pornography and violence, places they would never visit in the real world. We might call this toxic disinhibition. On the benign side, the disinhibition indicates an attempt to understand and explore oneself, to work through problems and find new ways of being. And sometimes, in toxic disinhibition, it is simply a blind catharsis, an acting out of unsavory needs and wishes without any personal growth at all.What causes this online disinhibition? I like it when someone just takes the "bull by the horns" and runs with it, exceeding expectations. I really dislike the overused term of "thinking outside the box," because a lot of us never were in the box in the first place Obviously Andrew Wheelock did just that! What stands out for me? 1) I need a $50,000 - $100,000, not line-itemed, grant with me as the designated administrator/controller. 3) This would also work for the Anthropology of Folklore[ class if you coupled it with say, video and books, of a folklore AND a fairytale, It is very difficult to get students to understand the difference between a fairytale and a folktale. Almost Ready for Fall #3dgamelab

I’ve written a bunch of posts sharing my journey to make a Results Only Learning Environment (ROLE) classroom that runs like a real life computer game using the 3D GameLab (3DGL) interface. I added more quests to my 6th grade classes bringing the total to 84 (now up to 90 total – 7-29-13) possible quests for kids to choose from and still at 54 badges/achievements to show them their progress and growth. After planning out my 8th grade year based on what I’ve taught in the past I have prepared 99 (now up to 109 total – 7-29-13) possible quests for students to choose from not including about 100 NOAA Planet Steward quests made available by a course I took on 3DGL this summer! Pretty exciting. That class has 40 badges/achievements to show students their progress and growth. 8th Grade Badges A typical 8th grade Screenshot.
