Modding refers to the act of modifying hardware, software, or virtually anything else, to perform a function not originally conceived or intended by the designer, or achieve a bespoke specification. The term modding is often used within the computer game community, particularly in regard to creating new or altered content and sharing that via the web. It may also be applied to the overclocking of computers in order to increase the frequency at the which the CPU operates. Case modding is also a popular activity amongst many computer enthusiasts which involves the customization of a computer case or the installation of water cooling technology.

The question is "Hacking Awful or Awesome?"

But whatever district you are in, the question of empowering professionals to take risks inside an often risk-averse environment is important. Two MOOCs ago, I shared a document that I am still developing. The document is a sort of "user's manual" for administrative staff (written with the principal in mind). The main thrust of the document as I have prepared it is for enterprising professionals to develop proofs of concept that can demonstrate increases in student achievement. The bottom line is this: Your admin staff is busy and is likely to be a risk-averse set of people.
