Backlit Canvas Art. Do you have one project that you've been longing to do, but just haven't found the time yet? This is it for me. I call it my Backlit Canvas Art and the inspiration piece has been pinned in my "Crafts to try" Pinterest board for ages. My "pin"speration is an artist's piece made from metal that has hand cut flowers all over it. Its backlit by Christmas lights, and I pretty much love it! So I decided to give it a go and create my version. There are two main differences between the two: 1. 2. The idea of the canvas is that during the day (ie. with the Christmas light off) you have a beautiful sculpture while at night (you guessed it, with the Christmas lights on!)
How about a tutorial? Supply list Mounted canvas (mine is 10"x10") cardstock to fit on your canvas (mine is 12"x12") stamps ink pad X-acto knife light source* *I wasn't sure if I wanted to use a single bulb or Christmas lights so that is why both are in the above picture. A few weeks ago, I came across this amazing image fromWhitewall and Co. I instantly fell in love with their stencils, but the prices were a little too high for my thrifty core. Step 1: Go to Office Max or Staples and get some clear folders like the ones in this picture below. Step 2: Cut the folders and tape them together. Tape the two folders together to create a large enough area for your stencil.
Step 3: Find an image that you like for your stencil and have it printed large enough to trace. Step 4: Trace your image on to your plastic folders with your narrow sharpie. I am so excited, because with this post I will have successfully completed my 30x30x3 journey, and on time too! I couldn’t be happier with the projects I’ve completed, and I can’t wait to keep going with some new projects, and maybe some new features as well.
For now I have some really fun new paint chip art, created from different sized circles. I know I’ve posted paint chip art before, but that technique was so different from this one I felt these pieces deserved their own post. All of these pieces are created from circles of three different sizes, 1 1/2″, 1″ and 1/2″. I started experimenting with using a singular color palette, as you can see in this turquoise version, and I think it is a fun variation. This may not have been the project I was planning, but it certainly has quite a celebratory look (especially those small ones, they remind me of confetti!) And while Craig is quick to correct me on the fact that dream catchers are not hippy-ish, I still think of them that way. Natural, care free, simple. All things I relate to those old hippies. hah. The point of a dream catcher is to weed out bad dreams. Depending on who you talk to, there will be two different stories on how this happens. Version 1: Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day.
This is not a traditional Native- American dream catcher. What I used: Embroidery Hoop Yarn (or twine, hemp… whatever you have on hand) Beads Feathers Thread Felt Hot Glue Gun Want to make one too?? Grab your embroidery hoop, leave it as is, or wrap it up like I did. Take your webbing yarn and form a loop at the top, this will be where you dreamcatcher hangs from. The webbing is the same stitch through out. Pull tight and repeat. Keep going until the hole in the middle is to your liking. That’s it. Such a great wall hanging piece. A shadow box is a great way to show off those little items in an clean and classy way. Filling your shadow box with too many pictures or items and result in framed collection of clutter. Supplies: 12×12 Shadow Box 12×12 print a select few of your keepsakes double sided tape craft supplies (clothespins, masking tape, decorative labels, hot glue gun, etc.) Step 1: Create your background using the Alphabet Frames templates. Step 2: Remove the label inside the shadow box and attach your 12×12 print using the double sided tape. Pop up flower - Arts.

Good bye boring blank wall, hello mosaic of photos. Rita Konig’s collection of photos (featured in Domino, Oct 2008 issue) was my inspiration for this photo wall. The photos are 5×5 in size (printed through whcc). I decided to go with a square format so I could include both photos and layouts in the mosaic arrangement.
