Batman: Arkham Asylum receives uninspiring Guinness World Record. By JC Fletcher on Aug 28th 2009 7:00PM Okay, we like Batman: Arkham Asylum and all, but our goodwill has limits -- and they stop right at the acceptance of a Guinness World Record for "Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever," which was announced today. It's a nice achievement for the game (and especially notable for a Batman game, given their history), but that's not a Guinness World Record.

That's a marketing blurb. Who decides what a superhero game is anyway? I Love Bees. I Love Bees was first advertised by a hidden message in a Halo 2 trailer; players who investigated the titular website discovered that the pages appeared to be hacked by a mysterious intelligence. As players solved puzzles, audio logs were posted to the ilovebees.com site which gradually revealed more of the fictional back-story, involving a marooned artificial intelligence stranded on Earth and its attempts to put itself back together.

I Love Bees was a marketing success; 250,000 people viewed the ilovebees website when it was launched in August 2004, and more than 500,000 returned to the site every time the pages were updated. More than three million visitors viewed the site over the course of three months, and thousands of people around the world participated in the game. I Love Bees won numerous awards for its innovation and helped spawn numerous other alternate reality games for video games. Overview[edit] Players respond to a phone call Plot[edit] Development[edit] Reception[edit] ARGs – Artificial Intelligence’s “The Beast” « Nolan Elingburg – Theory & Audience Analysis. “The Beast” was a Microsoft-created ARG creation from Microsoft to promote Steven Spielberg’s 2001 film Artificial Intelligence.

Beast is considered the first and most influential ARG because it paved the way for so many other ARG campaigns. The movie takes place in 2126, while the ARG takes place 16 years later in 2142. The game started in the credits of the movie trailer when Jeanine Salla’s name appears credited as a “Sentient Machine Therapist.” The same information could be found at the bottom of the film’s movie poster. There was also a phone number hidden in the text of one of the trailers. Another Google search resulted in websites describing Chan as a phenomenal swimmer and sailor. One of the cool things about The Beast is that the game was being created as it was happening.

The only ARG I’ve ever experienced was part of The Dark Knight’s campaign. Like this: Like Loading... Batman Arkham Asylum Marketing Campaign - Eidos Forums. Hell.com is an internet domain which has achieved a degree of notoriety due to its name, and an intentionally mysterious website that existed there from August 1995 to 2009 created by the first registrant of the domain, artist Kenneth Aronson.[2][3] The domain was sold by Aronson in 2009 to domain investor Rick Latona who put it up for auction several times in 2010, with reserves of up to US$1.5 million.[4][5] The domain receives thousands of curious visitors daily.[6] Hell.com under Aronson ownership[edit] Several versions of the Hell.com website were created during Aronson's ownership of the domain.

All the designs in the areas generally available to the public were simple and sparse, but employed mysterious text, purposefully difficult navigation and javascript tricks to create an intriguing experience that suggested something deeper, and which appealed to curious visitors, hackers, and others. Strange Video From Neill Blomkamp Appears on iPads. It’s a pretty common occurance to see video ads display before opening up an app or watching video on the Apple iPad.

However, in the latest iPad version of Wired Magazine (issue 18.12), a mysterious and unexplained video appears instead, and it’s credited by District 9 director Neil Blomkamp. What could this be? As you can see above, the found footage-style video shows two kids who drive out to the side of a road and find a nasty-looking dead pig-like creature with a big stamp on it. The stamp says “18.12 AGM Heartland Pat Pend USA” and “US Inspected And Approved”. This looks to be located outside some kind of factory, and the camera points in that direction to make sure we notice it. So, what is this all for? /Film did some research that makes it look like the beginning of an ARG, which isn’t surprising given the marketing campaign for District 9. Here is what I’ve discovered. 18.12 is the number of the issue of WiReD that this video appears in. Comments comments. John Titor - Time Traveler. John Titor. John Titor's military insignia John Titor is the name used on several bulletin boards during 2000 and 2001 by a poster claiming to be a time traveler from 2036.[1] In these posts, Titor made numerous predictions (a number of them vague, some quite specific)[2] about events in the near future, starting with events in 2004.

He described a drastically changed future in which the United States had broken into five smaller regions, the environment and infrastructure had been devastated by a nuclear attack, and most other world powers had been destroyed. To date, the story has been retold on numerous web sites, in a book, in a play, and the Japanese visual novel/anime Steins;Gate. Titor has also been discussed occasionally on the nationally-syndicated radio show Coast to Coast AM.[3] History[edit] The first posts appeared on the Time Travel Institute forums on November 2, 2000, under the name TimeTravel_0.

Around 2003, various websites reproduced Titor's posts, re-arranging them into narratives. Dexter ARG Campaign Kicks Off Season 5  Alternate Reality Gaming (ARG) seems to be growing bigger every year and for the most part, it’s probably driven by events like Comic-Con where in 2010, the fith season of dexter was previewed with an ARG campaign by Showtime to drive hype in the lead up to the season launch. Websites, blogs, forums, videos, twitter riddles, DM’s, voice mails, location challenges and of course, treasure hunts were in order create the ARG The ARG started with a hunt on SCVNGR (the mobile treasure hunt app platform) leading players to a secret kill room at Comic-Con to look for more clues, those clues eventually lead you to a special sleep analysis website, with clues pointing to a twitter user named urnameurlife and then onto a person known as “Serial Huntress” who has setup a website for crowdsourcing serial killer convictions.

She is currently uploading a new video with information, clues and questions every week in the hope of getting the community to help close the infinity killer case. Blair Witch. The Blair Witch Project. The film received enormously positive reception from critics and went on to gross over US$248 million worldwide,[3] making it one of the most successful independent movies of all time.

The DVD was released in December 1999 and presented only in full-screen. Plot[edit] The film opens with the opening text stating that in October 1994 three filmmaking students disappeared in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland while shooting a documentary. A year later, their footage was found by an anthropology class from the same university as the film makers during a study in the field. The second day, the students begin to explore the woods in north Burkittsville to look for evidence to prove that the Blair Witch exists. The following day they attempt to return to their vehicle but cannot find their way. The next morning Josh has disappeared. Production[edit] The Blair Witch Project was developed during 1994[5] by the filmmakers. The cemetery as part of the Blair Witch story Reception[edit] Books[edit] No Rekall. The blair witch project paradigm and online fan discourse - Internet - film, movie, director, cinema, role, news, story. The Blair Witch Project (1999) was one of the most profitable films in history when measured by its return on the initial investment.

Made for approximately $50,000 and grossing over $100 million in US theatrical box-office alone, this financial victory of a low-budget independent film over the major studio blockbusters instigated a paradigm panic among Hollywood executives due in large part to the important role of the Internet in the film's commercial success. When the mainstream film industry had already begun to create content specific to the Web, Internet promotion was still considered to be supplementary to established media outlets, and the theatrical film was still the main component of the brand or franchise. For The Blair Witch Project , however, the Web became the central medium or the primary text for the film's narrative and its reception, as well as its marketing or "franchising" beginning more than a year before the film's major theatrical distribution. Nine Inch Nails Year Zero viral Campaign. Year Zero (game) The term "marketing" sure is a frustrating one for me at the moment.

What you are now starting to experience IS "year zero". It's not some kind of gimmick to get you to buy a record - it IS the art form... and we're just getting started. Hope you enjoy the ride.[7] Reznor said that Year Zero is a concept album,[8] "could be about the end of the world", and marked a "shift in direction" in that it "doesn't sound like With Teeth. "[7] The 2006 tour merchandise designs featured overt references to the United States military, which "reflects future directions.

In an interview with Gigwise.com, Reznor stated that the concept behind Year Zero was partially inspired by his feelings toward the Bush administration. I really wanted to focus on something that was at the forefront of my consciousness which is, as an American, I'm appalled by the behavior of our government, the direction that it has taken and the direction that it's taken everyone else in the world and its arrogance... Today I shall walk you through the next stage of the community unlockable, in the past stage each faction had their own “test” to solve, however this time it appears all three factions are now working on the same ARG – no matter what faction you belong to, this will apply to you.

Tuesday night people began receiving SMS messages on their phones and emails in their inbox, I would like to take the time to point out I was not one of those people who received an SMS – however I had a weirder experience. I decided to get an early night and catch some sleep, when an hour later I woken up by my phone ringing, upon answering it I heard a click and then a female computer like voice talking to me – the words took a while to sink in (and it took me a good minute to realize it was an ARG and I was not going to be murdered!) About Slender Man (a.k.a Slenderman) is a mythical creature often depicted as a tall, thin figure wearing a black suit and a blank face. According to the legend, he can stretch or shorten his arms at will and has tentacle-like appendages protruding from his back.

Depending on the interpretations of the myth, the creature may cause memory loss, insomnia, paranoia, coughing fits (nicknamed “slendersickness”), photograph/video distortions and can teleport at will. The urban legend has inspired fan arts, fictional creepypastas and a mockumentary series in the style of the 1999 indie horror film Blair Witch Project. As the character has grown in popularity, he’s gained a number of other nicknames including The Operator, Der Großmann, Mr.
