The beauty of typography has no borders. While most of us work with the familiar Latin alphabet, international projects usually require quite extensive knowledge about less familiar writing systems from around the world. The aesthetics and structure of such designs can be strongly related to the shape and legibility of the letterforms, so learning about international writing systems will certainly help you create more attractive and engaging Web designs. Pick any language you like: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, maybe Nepali? Each is based on a different writing system, which makes it interesting to figure out how they work.

Japanese web design is little known among web designers in the Western part of the world, and it’s quite different in many ways. For example, Japanese designs tend to be colorful and animated, both in expression and features — it’s very common to find a mascot for virtually everything in Japan, from products to Government departments. Japanese web designs also tend to use Flash in a larger extent than Western counterparts, and the use of pastel colors is adopted by a wide variety of Japanese designers. We’ve gathered a collection of 30 inspiring — and colorful — Japanese web designs.
I’ve always been fascinated by User Interface design. It is actually how I started designing, creating skins for various programs and games but didn’t have the chance back then to see top notch creations made by other from which to draw inspiration and to have as models.
